This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new editing tricks.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture, re-sized to exactly 1000 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being re-sized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 4 Days (96 hrs) and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #349.

Game ends March 11, 2011 @ 8:30PM CST

The branches on this were a challenge.

started with a color balance adjustment (red +14, green +8, yellow -32)
cloned out crayons and leaf on bottom left
created new layer
colored individual branches with a brown to remove the "green" and "pink" branches.
I got tired of that...so I cropped the top!!
USM to boys face
created black border

The guy above shows me that this contest wasn't exactly what I thought it was.

So, take my entry with a grain of salt. I thought comedy was the goal, not improvement of the photo.

I used Photoshop Elements and got ahold of some copyright-free images to add in. Just a little fun. I didn't put a lot of time in it, but had a little fun. I tried to change the boy's expression to fright, but not sure if I pulled it off.

Hey Mike, it can be whatever you want it to be. Some people do a funny take others do a more serious edit, it is up to you. The op picks the winner using whatever criteria they want...it could be "funniest photo."

Opened in ACR, adjusted exposure and recovery. Opened in CS4, big crop, adjusted mid point of levels, LAB colour boost, whitened teeth by selective desaturation of yellows., radial blur and mask to paint in what I wanted to blur. Smart sharpen in luminosity mode. Stroke in white and black.

sorry I'm late in getting to this, I have several sick kiddos in the house. One being the boy in the tree ;)

jb2u - WOW, I am amazed at how you eliminated the horrible CA in the tree. Fantastic
MikeFairbanks - LOL! I do love a fun edit. This is a hilarious take on the photo. 'hang on lil' buddy'
NigelD - Your edit gives the photo and interesting sense of motion.
Surgeonhawkeye - I like the crop, the vignette may be a bit to strong for my tastes however.

I'll be giving this one to jb2u for the amazing elimination of the CA on this photo.

Great job everyone

This was a throw away photo from a series I took of my son climbing a tree I took w/ the sig 50 1.4. The one I ended up using, I still could not get rid of the horrible CA, so B&W was the only way *I* could go ;)

Good job everyone!! Thank you Lore. I hope your son gets well soon.
I like that final photo in b/w, Lore. By the way...you sucked me into the "photoshop tennis" thread!!

Mike, I hope you come back next time.

Thank You. & I'm glad you popped over there, I hope a few others take a peek too, its alot of fun, heck playing in the photoshop tennis thread since 08' its that thread that has really helped my cloning & shadowing & utilizing a few other tools in photoshop I never thought of using before that now I find quite useful in regular photo's. It's a great testing ground for techniques ;)
