Can an iPad 2 be used for tethered shooting?

I don't think the first iPad can do this (please correct me if I'm wrong) but I'm curious if the iPad 2 will allowed true tethered shooting. By tethered, I'm referring to the ability to review your shot on the iPad screen immediately after it is taken.

I'm a dunce when it comes to tethered shooting as I have never done it myself with a laptop, but it seems an invaluable device for shooting in the field with a tripod. My idea is to have the iPad mounted to the tripod next to my camera and tethered to my camera so I can immediately review my shots on the iPad screen. I'm really not interested in doing this through wifi or 3G since that will be a handicap for nature photography.

Any insights? Secondarily, does anyone make a mount or clamping device for an iPad to tripod at this time?

There's no difference between iPad and iPad 2 except dual processor, a couple of cameras, and some loss of weight, so your question should apply to either...

I thought the iPad 2 was supposed to have different I/O options? Or was that just wishful thinking?

When tethered to a PC you see what the live view sees straight on the camera and you can compose/shoot the picture all through the PC without touching the camera. And then you can see the picture you've taken ofcourse. Which is really nice.

I hope the ipad 2 can do this, but i doubt it. It is still using the same iOS and is practically the same thing as the original ipad.
First you need an app that supports this and then ofcourse the usb-support.
But i don't think anyone knows the answer to your question yet.

Just my thoughts.

Yes, M.Quick, you've taken it even a step further... and why not? Live View on the iPad for precise focusing would be ideal as well as viewing your shot instantaneously after you've taken it. Why is there no app for this? I wonder if one of the other tablets coming into the market is powerful enough to run an OS that can support the existing software programs to allow this... The issue with this, of course, and as with all software programs, there is so much more there than is needed. The nice thing about apps is that they are relatively simple and without bloat. All that is needed is the ability to Live View, take the photograph (nice feature), review the photograph, and some simple organizing.

Yes, in theory, it should work with DSLRemote software which works on the iphone and allows this.

Just to clarify, you will still need the camera tethered to a computer - but you'd be able to control focus, shutter, and all other settings through the iPad/iPhone - which would allow you to view the composition while you're in the frame. Step out of the frame, tap on the pad/phone to trip the shutter and voilà!

I used this for a photo booth type setup and it worked pretty well. It's great for product, children, and pet photography.

don't think any tablet supports it yet. But with a wifi grip and the right apps it might be possible. You might be able to do it without usb and be wireless. Then there is the bluetooth option if there is a bluetooth capable camera and app.

But current tablets do not have the apps, so I doubt it.

There's no USB port or other connection that would allow live view controls. There are people using Eye-fi cards and adhoc wi-fi setup to get images off the camera onto the ipad immediately after shooting.

Here’s a link to what I'm referring to. This can be coupled with eyefi card setup too... but it works really nicely.

Don't want a computer anywhere in the chain. It defeats the whole purpose for me. :(

yeah-- I thought the DSLR from onOne required a computer connection.

yeah, you do need to be connected to a computer. No apps yet setup for a wifi camera and a mobile device yet. But someone is most likely working on it.
