Can anyone who is currently using the GT or Rapid Dominance Bag take a picture with a ruler next to the bag for me? I'm trying to figure out how wide and tall this bag is in real life.

Sorry for the amazing cell phone pics but I'm lazy right now and thats the fastest way to load them to flickr :)

So hope these help.

gremlin75 - thanks! That's fantastic. From looking at pictures of the bag on amazon, i was worried that it might be too big, but that looks like a good size.

I made a few alterations to this combination of bag and insert. Since I wanted to tuck the top flap on the insert back inside the bag, the openings on the mesh pockets would then face down and everything put in them would fall out. I ran a new stitch across the openings and removed the stitch along the bottom. I also removed a stitch to widen a compartment to hold my wireless remote.
I constructed a handle from a short piece of webbing and then added the plastic clips/webbing to secure the top.
This is the first time I've ever used a sewing machine. I know I could do a neater job of it now. I am considering re-doing the top handle with a wider piece of webbing for aesthetics sake.

Great idea with the handle, I just got the bag yesterday and realized it needed a handle.

Great job. I also thought the openings for the pockets are on the wrong side.

The handle is a nice idea. I think if I go with this bag, I'll have to have my wife add one to it for me! (better that than me trying to do it myself and losing all my gear due to a poorly stitched handle!)

The webbing and clip around the bottom is critical with the handle since the velcro that holds the top flap isn't strong enough by itself.

Quite well done, I might have to dig out the old machine that I got from my mother. I like this idea...

Whenever I retire a backpack or any other camping equipment I scavenge what I can from it; straps, clips, etc.
I just got back from hauling this thing around for a week in Peru and the airports to and fro. It came through with flying colors. I intend on trying to alter it so I don't have to reach awkwardly underneath the bag to clip it shut. I think I may also add straps on the bottom to carry a jacket or a light tripod and a strap on the inside of the lid for the same purpose.
It was drizzling in Machu Picchu and the bag was nearly soaked on the outside. I wrapped the insert in a kitchen trash bag and it kept everything dry. I intend also to find the best way to waterproof canvas.
I appreciated the sense of security I felt walking around crowded cities and being able to keep the bag under my arm or hanging in front of me as opposed to a backpack type bag which feels more exposed.

Anyone thought of adding a zipper on the internal side if the flap so that it is not noticeable??
