This one was hiding in a ditch, but couldn't resist popping his head up at regular intervals to see what I was up to.

Great shots, Paul. It's kind of hard to hide when you're that brightly colored!

Great shots! If you've ever hunted, you'd be amazed at how well these brightly colored birds can hide. I've had my dog flush one from light cover, nearly at my feet, that I couldn't see even though the dog was pointing right at it.

Great colours, BioSci si right, they would have to work hard to hide so you did well to catch it poking its head up for a look.

Neat shots. I've seen enough of these to know how elusive they can be.

Absolutely. They have bright colors, sure, but those bright colors blend perfectly with the leftovers in a cornfield on a sunny day. I hunt too, and have taken almost an hour to find a dead pheasant in a picked cornfield.

Pheasants are one of my favorite to try and photograph. You are very lucky to have one cooperate so well. Very nice.:)

Thanks all for your comments.

I'm quite lucky that there are lots of these around the area where I live. When they are grazing by the side of a lane, they are particularly easy to approach in a vehicle, although these shots were taken on foot.

Paul
