What?? I was just about to pull the trigger on this lense and they have increased the price $150.00! I would like to know why myself. It doesnt make any sense, why would you drop the price of the new OS and increase the old version that had been at $799 for quite a while? Are they trying to push the OS that bad? All I have to say is this really sucks. Damn it, new I should have bought last week.

Just save up and get the OS. It is entirely worth it.

They increased the price of the 85 as well. What are they thinking? If they get too much closer to Canon, they are gonna lose.

Generally, true, but I feel that for the Sigma 85, its such a great lens for the money. Increasing its price a little bit won't necessarily make people go "wait, its too expensive now. Might as well get the 85L."

I played with the Sigma 85 and oooh gosh I love that thing!

Yeah it makes me want to wait to get the Canon. That is just too close to the L. The piggy bank needs to get a little heavier...

The 30 went up as well. I had been going back and forth for two weeks, guess that made my decision for me for the time being....

Well luckily I was able to find a brand new Sigma 70-200 2.8 at the local camera store for the $799 price, it even has the new finish like the OS version!

It was pointed out to me recently that the earthquake in Japan may have influenced this (that's where they're manufactured, right?). I am in the same boat...my wife is about to start looking for work again, and I was ready to pull the trigger soon, but this is above an 18 percent price increase!

Yeah :(
Nearly every lens has gone up in price by a large amount. I'll have to wait until rebates start up to really get new glass. But I'll stay positive and just put some aside every month until that happens and be in the position to get a couple of lenses with rebates!

The glass is half full!!!

Only problem with that is, they raise the price to list, THEN apply the rebates. So you end up paying about the same price anyway. But you feel better about it. The rebates have become a non point to me when looking for glass. At times it is possible to pay more when getting a rebate, as List price is higher than the rebate will lower it.
