After all she is pretty pale..

I see the name Angus Young.. Anything to do with the guy from ACDC?

What do you need to do to get press pass at these gigs?

Hi Nidz, press passes (or credentials, depending on who you are talking to) are arranged for you by the editor of a publication that you are shooting on behalf of. Basically to get to shoot high profile gigs (ie the ones that require a press pass) you need to have established that you have a body of work and an ability to come home with photos suitable for publication. Generally only limited photographers get passes for the big shows and it can be hit and miss (unless of course your name is Tony Mott). If it is something that you aspire to, then start marketing yourself to any relevant media. I hope this helps.

As for my name - it's my own and I have nothing to do with AC/DC beyond sharing a name. For an amusing bit of trivia, my father's name is Neil.

Great band and love the shot. So if I make it to Brissy you can get me back stage :)

Well, I'm about to move to Sydney in less than a month. There tends to be very little backstage access for press photographers at the big shows (lots at the smaller ones if you know the right people) but it really ain't that glamourous anyway!

Drinking riders tends to be for the bands, their managers and crew and hangers on. Or maybe there is another side to rock'n'roll photography that I'm missing? Anyway, if you're headed my way I could certainly have my arm twisted for a beer or two :)

Cool. I have friends in the recording industry in Sydney. Maybe we can by each other a beer ;)

For those less fortunate who don't get press credentials or All Access passes ... it doesn't mean all that much with the big talent ... I am usually limited to three songs with further limitations on where I can shoot from. I always have an All Access pass, work for the casino with a casino picture ID that opens the locked doors, but am not allowed to go back stage, on the stage, near the talent (who usually have security people who honor no passes!), etc. Really, really, it is work and the only glamour is in the eyes of the beholder. OTOH, for the smaller performers/bands that need PR having the pass is worth it's weight in gold for getting images, but then no one knows who they are! My lastest submission here on POTN features four bands that would have let me do anything because they have seen my work, but you probably haven't heard of any of them: Anthony Prietos, El Chicano, Malo and The Original Lowriders. Angus makes getting stunning images look easy, but it is probably not heavily related to his press credentials ... it is related to his talent.

Cool thanks for filling me in on how passes come about.. New information to me. I'd say you are very lucky to be in the position to get access to shoot these rock stars. I reckon it'd be cool to shoot say bands like Greenday and the like. I'd kill for the chance.. hehe
