Wondering if you stayed with the Photo Clam ballhead after a couple months use? I finally did the write-up on the Benro C2680T and now the 1541T is replaced with the 1542T the Benro is an even better choice. I've used it pretty hard and it's been great.

Yeah, I dunno, the gitzo 1542T looks nice, the price isn't *that* bad really, benro and other brands are creeping up into gitzo territory now-adays. I'm not convinced that the 1542 is superior in any way to the horusbennu c-1540t, though, but they aren't available on e-bay anymore and the horusbennu travel tripods that are are too short or rely too much on the center column or aren't as sturdy, so if you want a travel tripod as your main tripod you hafta go gitzo or benro or get creative to try to order a c-1540t from overseas.. (it's still sold by them, they just aren't on e-bay anymore). I've played with the newer induro/benro stuff at a local store, and it didn't seem to have as nice of "feel" as the gitzo or horrusbennu stuff, but as long as it holds up good that's all that really matters. I like the super simple construction of the horrusbennu legs, takes seconds to take all apart wash everything out and slightly oil it after it's spent a few hours in the ocean, lol.

Interesting. I got my FX-7439TT horusbennu pod and thought that that one looked closest to the gitzo 154X based on specs. I'm happy with this one which is still for sale on ebay but the other traveler sets they're selling right now don't look sturdy enough or have too many sections (5) in one case.

Was the C-1540T supposed to be higher end than the FX-7439TT or is it just a different design?

It's hard to keep track of this, they have too many different models and a bunch of it isn't available in the US through any normal means

This is true and it can be virtually impossible to keep track of as you say. Last year Benro updated their models then changed their naming convention sowing mass confusion.

At least Gitzo have a stable naming convention and have published a key map of what each character means in the tripod labels.

Yeah, I like the Gitzo numbering scheme. It's confusing too but at least it means something once you figure it out.

I think these other companies just pick random numbers and letters sometimes and just try to find something confusing enough that it makes the product look expensive :)

Benro put this (external link) up when they were changing the names. I think it was also on the BenroUSA site, but I can't find it.

You know Gordon I looked for that for a long time but never found it. They had text that referred to it but didn't link to it. Thanks so much for posting the link! :)

Yeah, They used to link to it on all the tripod product pages, but the link was dead on the English translated site. I found it on the Chinese site, but it was obviously in Chinese. You could still figure it out by reading the numbers, though. After a while, they got it translated into English.
