Hi All,

Just wonder what lens is better to take photo on the top of the mountain?

Sorry, I don't have 50mm Prime.

If telephoto lens, 85mm or 135mm is long enough or not?

Many thanks :)

Ed: Mt Cook in New Zealand; and Swiss Alps.

Depends if you want to shoot wide or long

Take zoom lens, so you can compose the way you want.
85 seems good, you can take 6 or 8 shots and stitch it later in PS if you want to shoot wide.

Really depends on what image you want. wide is good but theres always the option to shoot long and stitch it all together if u have a good tripod. personally i would go with a good telephoto so u can pick long or wide when ur up there.

I took my 24-105 and 70-200 up Mt Teide used both, however the 24-105 was on the camera most.

I'm thinking using a prime telephoto to get 'bit more detail', and stitch them together as KY707 said;

Otherwise, 5D2 + 17-40, T2i/550D + 24-105 will be a nice setup.

Painful decision...

If you do bring tripod up there, 85 would be great. But 5D mark II and 17-40 is not bad either.
Personally, I'd choose 85.

based on these 2 combo's i'd definitely go with the 5D2 + 17-40. 17-40 is already a wide angle lens and you'll be mounting it to a FF so ur gunna get a wider shot than the crop T2i.

Wide angle - it's lighter. ;)

I had my '7kg Primes Travel Bag' setup few weeks back here:

I'm still not sure to get rid off the 580EX, add 135 or not...

Only start to use Prime few months back; zoom was so much easier ...

I'd rather bring a 70-200 for versatility and a wider prime

I think a wide is your best bet.

IMO, many UWA landscape shots are boring-boring-boring... Lots of sky and foreground and very small details. I far prefer a pano for landscape work.

I also like long lenses because they tend to compress distances.
