Just bought my first DSLR (Canon 30D and Tamron 28-75mm) and this is my first time to post pictures, so be gentle. I am still learning, but it is starting to make sense.

Any CC is appreciated.

Hey, there! Welcome to the forum. You seem to be off to a good start. You were shooting in some pretty high-contrast lighting, so you didn't get great results, but not terrible, either. I'm sure someone will pop on here soon about how you can post-process these pictures better. I'd say the first thing to do is make sure your camera is straight.

If you don't have one already, invest in a good circular polarizer. That's a filter that screws onto the front of your lens. It's like sunglasses for your camera. They work great in situations like this. B&W and Hoya make some of the best.

Keep shooting!

I already have a Tiffen UV Filter and I had that on today, but I have a TIffen 3 filter kit on the way, including the polarizing filter. Thanks!

Hi and welcome. I like the first 2. The close up of the seat writing makes for a nice image, the second one has that WTF factor that just grabs you and makes you shake your head. The third one does not grab me but keep going the way you are because you have a good eye for the different and interesting subjects.

The second image was of a homeless man that requested his photo be taken. I was walking around, looking for interesting stuff and he yelled at me, "Hey, make me famous!" It was quite the experience. The third image is of another homeless man that was asleep on the bench, but I could not get around to another angle of him. I was a little dissapointed in that.

Question about the polarizing filter. Do I only put that on or do I also put on the UV filter? Any good, but simple reads about filters you guys might reccomend? I have a few days coming up of outstanding weather and would love to maximize my shots. Thanks again.

The best thing you can do with the UV filter is find a place for it in your bag and leave it there. They're pretty much useless, in my opinion. Use the polarizer by itself. It will cut down the light by 1.5 - 2.0 stops, so you don't want anything else on there if you can help it. Plus, the more filters you have, the more you'll degrade the final image.

Homeless people can be a blast when you have a camera in hand. They can also harras you and throw lit cigs at you for pointing your camera at them. These shots look good! Cheers.

great start!! 28-75mm Tamron is a great lens especially for APS-C dslr! I use mine almost 90% of the time. great choice with the Tiffen filters especially with polarizer.
