A very interesting read:

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

They are no more "in bed" with Apple then they are with Adobe, Avid, Microsoft, or anyone else that will ensure Canon users have ease of use when using their products. Their list of development partners is huge. Apple just happens to have two editing programs they want to make sure they are on, ditto for ensuring Windows users have the same ease of use.

It would only be in their best interest to make sure any user on any system has no reason to switch.

Yes, but rumors like this don't usually start floating around without a bit of evidence. My thoughts would be:

1) Airplay enabled cameras.... so you can shoot wirelessly tethered to an iOS/Apple device (the holy grail, as it were)

2) Collaboration on video editing in some manner that would benefit both Canon and the Final Cut app (whose update is said to be quite ambitious and I am very excited to see.... hoping for a steep discount much like they did with Aperture).

These are my two likeliest candidates as well. Native iOS device tethering would be a huge boost for Canon and a nice feature for Apple.

One far-fetched but not entirely out-of-the-question thought is that Canon could be one of Apple's potential "huge acquisitions." Apple has an enormous, enormous amount of cash-on-hand, and there are weekly rumblings as to who the targets might be (from Kodak to Adobe to freaking Sony). I'd put the odds on this at around 100,000:1.

The other major possibility is AirPrint to Canon printers from iOS. This would be huge for photo printing from the iPhone.

AirPrint, AirPlay and AirDrop (external link) (wireless file transfer with automatic network setup) come to mind, as well as the things they already do (RAW support throughout the OS and the stuff they do for Final Cut).

I'd also love to see a Thunderbold port (as an addition, not a replacement for USB/HDMI) on upcoming single-digit cameras.

The next version of Final Cut will most likely be released at this year's NAB, so maybe that will shed some light on all this.

I was talking to a friend the other day about this... All you mac lovers out there, imagine this:
while shooting around the house with your camera, you take a great shot of your kids or something. you transfer the file wirelessly to your iPad. you fire up the iOS version of Aperture. you edit the RAW file using the standard sliders with your finger. you print the picture out and hang it on your fridge. all in the span of 10-15 minutes.

this would make me purchase and iPad and a Canon printer. just sayin'. :-)

I would agree, but what rumors other than a collaboration which is non news given the number of collaborations each company has with countless partners? I would love to see computer specific components in a camera, but it is a reach given that it would be a production nightmare. I would not expect anything other than software related updates, which obviously AirPrint could be part of, but all the news has been around editing software .

The great thing about Thunderbolt is that it's backwards-compatible (well not exactly backwards...side-backwards? Cross-backwards?) with USB. So you could have both in one port on the camera. I could be wrong there...but I'm fairly sure that'd be possible.

That would be pretty cool. Better, though, would be if you could edit that photo through your iPad real-time on a central server, rather than transfer it directly to the iPad. The iPad would be a fantastic photo-editing device (except in terms of precise color and contrast correction) if it could hold a substantial number of photos. Which, in the DSLR world, it really can't

And by the way... does anyone else relish turning the Direct Print button into a Direct iPad button?

The only problem with these ideas is that, if I'm thinking correctly, they'd more or less make Canon's ridiculously overpriced wireless transmitters obsolete. But, while I have no idea how much of those things they actually sell, I have to imagine that the sales boost coming from the Apple link would offset that cost.

Would this result in a CanAppleOnCam?

Holy crap...how about an SLR with a removable 3" iPod touch style device in place of the lcd display? Leave it in for normal use, pop it out and use it to remotely control the camera? How awesome would that be?
