There was a small display tonight.. They weren't that well formed. The red lights right on the horizon are from a little town of about 250 people located to my north. It was a little foggy and the street lights got spread out a bit more than usual..

Nice!

The Auroras were amazing in the Interior of Alaska March 9, and I imagine tonight the 10th.

A few hundred kilometers north of you they were much more impressive. I'm in Gillam, and here's a few pictures I took March 9th (it was cloudy on the 10th):

I've got over 100 pictures of the northern lights so far this year. It's been EXTREMELY active, and it's supposed to keep building.

Next weekend I'm heading up to a railroad siding halfway between Gillam and Churchill called McClintock, to help out with a big dogsled race (www.hudsonbayquest.com (external link)), so I hope the skies are clear and the lights are out up there. Hoping for a "perfect" composition with a number of dogsled teams bedded down for the night with the Northern Lights shining over the tundra.

Here's hopin'!

Thanks. As far as how far north from Van, I'm really not sure. I'm just above the 56th parallel, not far from the land of the great white bears... Just south of Churchill Manitoba.

You definitely got a better view of the lights with more definition... Good shots.. I'm hoping for a good display here before summer arrives. Then, all the extra daylight limits shooting times. We only get an hour or so of real dark skies.

And.. My avitar is one of those great white wild bears that I took a few years back on a bear tour in Churchill. :)
