According to this article -

6 Things You Should NEVER Buy Used

http://www.foxbusiness.com …/03/04/6-things-buy-used/ (external link)

I'm sure many here will disagree with that author's opinion.

Author seems to be referring to low-end cameras.

He makes it sound as though cameras can't be tested/inspected; boats can't be checked out and jewelry can't be appraised before buying. I wouldn't have any problem buying any of the three used, if I could get the item properly checked and evaluated prior to purchase.

In my opinion, the author's view is much too simplistic.

I have a more general rule which is to never buy anything that I know less about than the seller.

It's a lens not a lense!

That point might hold true for a $100 point and shoot. And its probably even more true regarding video gear where standards and media are continually evolving. But obviously it fails for high end DSLR's and lenses.

.

Find me a NEW digital camera of any kind for $40.

I've actually resolved to never buy a new camera again. They depreciate as fast as cars. The 50D is barely 2 -2.5 years old and still a killer camera. It was $1300 at release on now selling for $600 used/refurb.

My ZS3 compact was near $300 in 2009 and still just as good as the new ZS10, but I can't sell it for $150 on ebay.

I'm having a hard time passing that up; seems like some people are getting overstock through CLP - so (potentially) a "NEW" 50D for $540 + tax? Hmmmm, even if I REALLY want the 7D, could I manage with the 50D for a while? :D

I'm with you - I won't buy a new camera. The money would be much better spent in an extended warranty with Adorama + CLP refurb. -Brian

You can get a brand new spy camera on meritline for less than $20.

After my experience with the CLP I won't buy a brand new body again.

First thing I do in a hotel room is remove the bedspread and stick it in corner of the room. These things are lucky to get cleaned once a year, if that much.

There was a report just recently stating the infestation of bedbugs in hotel rooms will become more widespread this year since bedbugs are becoming more immune to the pesticides used to kill them.

I don't personally, as the cost for anything that might go wrong is pricey. And easily out pace the saving you got from buying used. As there is some many things that can go wrong with a used camera. And depending on how it was treated or how much uses they have seen. The life of a digital camera will not as long as new.

But if you have cost concerns. And need the better ability. And refreb is out of the price range. It is a option for some.
