I see that LaCie now has a 1TB flash drive. What are the pros and cons of flash storage vs disk drives? Is there any info on longevity advantages between the two?
Thanks!

If it's a typical USB flash drive then it'll be rather slow. If it's an SSD, then it will likely be very fast (and expensive). "Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

But if you look at the photos your first link, it's connected externally to the laptop. That's an external hard drive enclosure. Do a Google search on SATA speeds. SATA I is 1.5Gb/s, SATA II is 3Gb/s. - Ed

The Lacie external hard drive you posted a link on is no different than a disk drive, except that it's an external drive. This will allow you to connect it from computer to computer with a USB port. I'm sure this is NOT an SSD drive, due to the cost. If this is a SSD drive, I would buy it and just rip apart the external enclosure and use it for my laptop. Keep in mind, 1TB SSD drives cost over $1000. - Ed

Mar 10, 2011 21:42 | #8 According to Adorama's email, it is NOT a hard disk drive. I understand the difference between USB and SATA, I know of 0 computers with an external SATA connection. Every hard disk drive lists in the specs 3.5", 2.5", 5400 rpm, 7200 rpm, etc. This says flash drive. Tim

Please see USB specs 4 x USB 2.0 (4th port shared with eSATA) Also found another manufacturer with a laptop that has eSata port... - Ed
