Sooner or later the idjits in office will realize that education is not the place to be making cuts.

In my case (early childhood) the view seems to be that if we go back to licensing regs of the 1970's for child care then you pay for what you get... aka you have $$ you get great child care... There seems to be a vindetta against the whole idea that every child deserves the high quality child care... and social services in general... Sigh

Jon wrote in post #12013332 (external link)
If they were capable of realizing that, they would already be fighting cuts there. I fear the only way they'll stop making cuts in education is when they're no longer empowered to.

I fear you are right... the stuff that is happening in the NC legislature is just crazy... and then of course the federal cuts (the whole reason I will be in your neck of the woods at the end of March!) may do us in as well... Seeing as the cuts they are voting on now... are for the 2010-2011 fiscal year not the 2011-12! So programs are going on budgets based on previous years because they don't actually know how much they'll get...

So that said... I may have PLENTY of time to hang out and shoot with you guys in July!!!!
:o In years past I was only minorly concerned... this year... I'm VERY concerned...

So guys and gals, I like the look of this thread, what is the deal here? I have never been a part of any sort of get together of people on here so the idea is new to me. I have read over the first page but it looks like things are only in the planning stages at this point. Exciting to think of actually getting together and shooting...no doubt I could learn a few things!

Not a lot of MBIF, Jay, but there are some FBIF usually around, and I'm sure we could scare up somewhere there are at the least spam cans. Just expect the weather there to be what you see in the winter. :{)#

Seriously, I'm figuring on a trip to Charlotte next Feb., as a possible retirement site. They have a couple of near-by aviation museums (nothing to compare with Pima, MoF, NASM or AFM, I'm sure) which is a mandatory criterion.

Retire to Charlotte??

I missed last year due to work  But now NO work

Jenn and I will have to coordinate the boys and that depends on their grandfather's work schedule BUT since no date has been decided on and the summer schedule isn't out no need to worry about just yet.

Maybe. Depends what we think about it after we've been there a couple of weeks. And what we think about other places we look at.

I'd suggest you look at Concord Jon. It's about the size of Asheville, and a nice city. I also like the Harrisburg area, which is between Concord and Charlotte.

Looking forward to this years shoot-out!

Just a bunch of POTN folks that get together each summer to shoot. We welcome everyone to join us, there is no requirement to have fancy gear or be a pro shooter....we have fun, take pictures and if we can help someone out....that is just an added benefit. Stay tuned....join in the planning and prep if you really wish to participate!

Where are you located?

Thanks Woolburr! I am in Kings Mountain, about a half hour west of Charlotte, or a little over an hour east of Asheville....nice to be somewhat in the middle, can be in the mountains in just over an hour or downtown in under an hour!

I'll be sure to stay tuned, and will help out if I can! I'm guessing the meet-ups are mostly day trips?

Most gatherings are day trips. Some have extended to include some night shots as well, but at the end of the day....everyone typically goes home. We welcome anyone from POTN to join us....and we have had some visitors from afar on past shoots. I guess you could say we play things by ear.

Sounds about like a typical gathering of enthusiasts...I am part of a local Mopar group and we have met a few times for rides and such...much harder to do with a group of cars I would think, everyone has a hard time keeping together!

I will stay posted on this thread and will help out in any way that I can!

Could be, Ann's been checking out properties on Lake Norman too. Gotta be handy to the ducks . . .

Yeah....I think MD and Jersey qualify....even if poor Gina has never resurfaced!

Just plan to get scarce three times a year when it's race weekend at the track...

(Or, rent out your place and make $$$!)

Lake Norman is a nice area. Mike lived there for a number of years before moving to Concord.

I've actually traveled to Concord on race weekend and had no issues... ya just gotta be a quick study of the out of the way routes! ;)
