Are there light stands with different attachment heads to brackets?

I've noticed that the bottom of this Kacey bracket:

is different from this one which apparently accepts a "grip head":

What is a grip head? Is it better than normal/regular heads?

There are stands that come with the "regular" brass 5/8" studs and then there are stands that come with "baby" 5/8" studs (eg. Avenger c-stands). Below is a comparison shot of the two.

Although you can clamp a grip head to a brass 5/8" stud (left), it's really meant to clamp on to a baby 5/8" stud (right).
