I don't understand your comment, I'm sorry.
The order of operations places multiplication or division ahead of addition or subtraction. Or do you mean something else?

Sorry, but Capn Jack is right. Have you read the few posts after the one you replied to?

Of course they aren't. It stands to reason that now in the R.H.S. of the equation, there is an exclamation mark, which in math is known as the factorial of the written number and the factorial of a number means the product of all the numbers from 1 to the given number. For example,

5! = 5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 = 120

Good 'ere init

Ah yes, the rustiness of my 50 year ago maths.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

You've got nothing on me for oxidation history. At first I agreed with you in rejecting the equation, but that seemed too simple. I held back and applied the old strategy "Stare at it until something occurs to you."

How has this joke thread suddenly been highjacked by a thread devoted to mathematics?

Maths was always a joke for me and I am seriously not kidding

Don't worry, soon the jokes that have circulated for years will surely start coming around again.

You mean like the one about a dyslexic pimp who bought a warehouse? That sort of thing?-?

Good example. Another that showed up in the thread, one about a nun, should have reached retirement age long ago. I heard it in the 1960s. It was just as funny then as it is now.

Apparently they always go around in pairs so that one nun can make sure that the other nun has none

Not too sure what's meant by it though as I have had a sheltered life -?
