Nice effort but not showing that bullet, pellet, projectile; doesn't cut it for me.

Well, I'm really really sorry it doesn't work for you.

I need to get some sub-sonic .22 ammo and maybe a more powerful flash. The 430EXII doesn't seem to have a short enough flash duration to stop the bullet.

-Mark.

On the barrel of this H&K, is that flash suppressor correctly installed?

Not a flash suppressor. Its a muzzle brake, and it may not be clocked correctly, but it really doesn't matter.

I like to call these things "loudeners".

My "new to me" HK USP 45 Tactical.

and a snapshot of my USP and it's best buddy, the 45 Osprey. (or it will be when it gets out of NFA jail)

Please don't take it in a wrong way. I don't want to undermine you effort but this is nothing new. In the classic example of Harold Eugene Edgerton performed half a century back on 1962, he froze a large caliber gun bullet (6mm) while passing through apple LINK (external link) LINK-2. (external link) I don't see anything in your images to be even a blurred bullet so thinking you might have missed it in your timing. Please correct me if I am wrong. And if so by rearranging you exposure time, Or placement of flash from a more frontal angle, you might have had that opportunity of capturing the action differently a tad earlier. Or in by changing 0.22 with a lower velocity projectile say air gun pellet. That is what I am referring too. Then I am a believer in creating a good image, not a recorder of actual real event (I am not a photojournalist), so in worst scenario I would not hesitate to clone a good looking bullet where it should be and completing the image that way. Call me cheater or crazy, but still given two sets of images to a blind to procedure judge panel, you can be sure which image is going to be the one with merit.
Well just a fuel for your thought and nothing more.

My problem is that even with a 580EXII, I think the fastest flash duration at 1/128th power is only 1/50,000th of a second. Anything travelling at 1,200 f/s is still going to travel about 1.5" in that timeframe. Using a 430EXII at 1/64th is even slower.

You can actually see a little bit of the bullet in some of the frames, but it's probably already moved almost 3 inches just while the flash was firing.

Looks like a JP Comp.

And yes , on short bll's , they are indeed "loudeners". I tried a Miculek brake on our 10.5" M16 , while it helped control recoil in full auto , it was deafening.
