Thanks. This one's a good shooter too. Fires all ammo (including steel case), without any problems. I read on Genitron.com it was produced from 1998 - 2003, which is pretty amazing since I purchased this new from a Northwest gun dealer in July 2011. It's definitely a keeper though, one I'll pass on to family when the time comes.

I run the website for a Registered Firearms Dealer here in the UK. He had a CZ 527 rifle in .222 Rem in stock on the shelf for 19 years before he sold it as a brand new rifle, which of course it was. He got stuck with the gun by the importers salesman just at the point when .222 completely fell out of favour with British shooters who pretty much moved almost overnight en-mass to using .223 Rem not long after we adopted the L85 rifle and L86 LSW in 5.56×45 as the new standard weapons for our armed forces, when cheap surplus ammo became available.

What was really funny was that when he did eventually sell the rifle he had two customers both wanting it, and they were friends of mine from my shooting club, who didn't know they were both competing for the same rifle. I don't recall who won, but it came down to who could get the licencing paperwork sorted first that got the rifle.

The ones without the mag safeties tend to be the police issue weapons, or at least that is what the police supply house informed me of.

In Nevada you get to choose which way you want it, but keeping California in mind, I'm sure that will vary from state to state.

Do you find that the 300mm is a bit long for a shoot like that?

Nope, only when people stand in the way. I didn't want to get too close while they were firing. Some of those things really make the brass fly. If a case caught my front element, I might have gone on a rampage.

I was after details, anyway. I actually went in closer to get things like the back of the cannon.

A 70-200 would probably be the best bet. Sometimes I'd miss the reach, though. Good news is, you can almost always crop a bit.
