Nice Mutant, Jeff .... and I bet that you have some plans for all of that keymod real estate ! :-D
What are using using for the background .... a fuzzy type blanket ? It came out well, with great separation.

The Mutant is so interesting to me. How is the reliability on them? How about compared to a US-made AK?

Thanks, Mike. Yeah, there's a lot of room to work with on that hand guard! The background is just white paper, but I brushed a little clarity in to give it a more textured appearance.

I took a leap of faith on buying it (because I found the concept interesting also) and have been very happy with reliability and functionality. I wasn't sure what to expect out of it, so I didn't outfit it as I usually would a rifle right off the bat, just put on a pair of Diamond Head sights and ran it as is for a while to see what I thought. I discovered quickly that I really liked the rifle. It has a surprisingly good balance and is relatively light. I also found that it was very accurate (almost as good as my LWRC AR in 5.56) out to 100-150 yards, so decided to invest in a red dot and flip up 3x magnifier. Now I've got a fore grip and some hand guard covers waiting to install, and an Ergo stock on order. Definitely prefer the Mutant over any standard AK, even US made.

Yeah, it's got a lot of AK47 on the inside even if it looks more like AR
( I only know as I was just looking it up too! ;) )

AK similarities: shoots 7.62x39, uses AK pattern mags (and AK mag release) and no bolt catch/hold open

AR similarities: everything else
