I knew I needed something better than my ancient non-IS Canon 18-55mm that came with my 350D, but didn't want to spend a lot of money on non-macro gear since macrophotography is 80% of what I do.

The STM lenses came highly recommended except by a few purists who ignored my requirements. I think this and the 55-250mm are going to work out well.

I'm planning to do some shots of my S&W revolvers soon, but since I'm currently set up for small object macro, I'm going to have to do some reconfiguration. I'll probably have to build a stage on which to place the guns and hold them upright. I'll probably have to do some modification of my light tent to improve the diffusion.

Eventually, I hope to compare the STM lenses versus my Tokina 100mm macro.
