snagged one of the Midway M1 Carbines. A Quality Hardware with a Rock-ola barrel, Winchester dogleg hammer and trigger group. It will live with my two Winchester M1 Carbines that I got from CMP a few years ago. I am addicted to carbines, have two Enfield #5's and two Mosin carbines.

Winchesters at top, QH is at bottom of the 3 M1's bottom picture was before I got the QH last week

A M1A1 is legal in Assachusetts unless it has a flash hider. A friend of mine is a FFL.

Let's not delve to deeply into any legal/political concerns on this photography forum please.

That said, to me an "M1A1" is a tank,. I assume we are speaking of the M1A, the civilian-legal semi-auto version of the revered U.S. Military M14 rifle, that dominates the competition fields?
