I need a new ball head for my manfrotto 190XPROB tripod to replace my 488RC2 (on which the panoramic rotation bit has totally jammed).

I was pretty set on the 327RC2 trigger head because of the ease of use but I've just noticed it doesnt have a separate panoramic lock so I'm thinking maybe stick with a normal ball head and go with a 498RC2

Anyway to save me trawling through websites and reading lots of reviews I'd just ask here if there are any recommendations for other ball heads?

Budget is no more than the price of a 327RC2 (about £120 here in the UK)
Heaviest gear is currently a Canon 50D and Canon 70-200mm f4 (but I'll be adding a 100-400mm at some point) and I mostly use it for shooting landscapes

Thanks

Without spending a LOT more money, I'd recommend the Manfrotto 498RC2. It has an advantage over the 488RC2 in that there's a new control to set the friction on the ball when the ball is not locked tight.

I went for the 498RC2 in the end... I really wanted a trigger one but the lack of a panoramic lock would have annoyed me. Plus I managed to get a brand new 498RC2 for £70, bargain!

would seriously recommend dumping the Manfrotto RCx clamp and plate. Consider replacing them with RRS multimount QR clamp and put a L bracket on the camera body.

Have you got a link for those?

Why would you ditch the manfrotto stuff or will that become apparent when I learn what the RRS multimount is?

For the money (relatively ;)), 498RC2 is a good ballhead. Depends on what your needs are as well.
