I guess is a $571 savings worth giving up 9 months of waranty? I tend to think it may be...But refurb means it could be a display set / a faulty set that has been repaired. But what if it's already heavily used and shutter count is like 100K+ ?

Personally, 2 5D2 from Canon both had less than 10 clicks on them. Sure there are chances a few might be somewhat used, but I think I have seen only 1 or 2 stories where there was a shutter count > 10K. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

Uhh, you do know that they reset the shutter count when going over these "refurb's" for resale, right?? Brent Oliver

So, yes, you could get one that has 20-50k on it, but it should only show very little useage on the readout(whether EXIF or image file) Also, I have heard from a friend that works for Canon that if anything is even close to 75-100k they replace the shutter anyways.. Whether or not that is true, I have no clue.. But I would like to hope so...especially on a Rebel when they are only rated for 100k,maybe more(cant remember off hand..) Every refurb I have ever recieved has had a shutter count of ~4-10 shots(TOTAL, NOT 4-10k!!) which tells me they replace/reset the shutter, and then take several shots to verify operation before being boxed up for resale.. (I should mention that I buy ~6 refurb bodies a month, typically Rebels, for my business, and so I like to think I know a bit about it..but, I am always being proven wrong, especially by the CFO...LOL) Uhh, the 2 that I picked up from Canon had zero marks on them, factory LCD covers, and had a new camera smell. There is absolutely zero chance these had any use on them at all. So perhaps your experience may be true, but it doesn't make it the defacto answer for all cameras purchased via the refurb program. Rebels are the most sold, most used Canon bodies that most likely have a high return rate due to warranty, etc and thus the lottery odds of getting something more used with that body could be higher.
