I'm going to be heading off to Vegas for a week at the beginning of April, and am not quite sure what gear I should bring with me.

Here's what I have:
Bodies: 7d, XSi
Lenses: 50mm 1.8 ii, 18-55 IS kit lens, 55-250 4.5-5.6 IS, 70-200 2.8 IS ii
Flash: 430ex ii
Bag: Lowepro Fastpack 250

I'd like to bring what I'll be able to use, which is why I don't believe I'll be taking the 70-200 2.8. Would I be good with the 7d, 50 1.8, and 18-55? Is there a compelling reason to have a telephoto in Vegas?

7D, XSi, Canon 50 1.8, 18-55 IS, 55-250 IS, 70-200 2.8 L IS II, 430 EX II

7d and 50. You don’t want to have to think about which lens. just bring the 50 and shoot.

I think that will be good for the night shots, but the 18-55 will probably be making the trip so I can get some wide(r) angle shots inside / during the daytime.

And that's the other side of the coin. I'm beginning to turn over to the P&S for simplicity and space savings (we don't want checked bags!). It'll just feel a bit odd not having the ol' ball and chain hanging from my neck

I would agree, but underline the "good" portion of the quote.

Well, I currently have a canon sd870is from a few years ago. Good enough or something better?

I don't know that model so I cannot comment on it. I have not shopped for point-n-shoot cameras for quite a while, either.

There are times when our PowerShot G2 goes with us instead of my 20D rig. The G2 can make RAW images, and that's important to me.
