We tried to take my son camping a few weeks back, and he absolutely loved it. When it got dark and we turned on the Lantern, he was mesmerized for quite a while. This was taken with the nifty 50 @ f1.8. I wish I could have filtered the light some, but it was one of those pics on the fly. Its not the greatest pic I've ever taken, but I kind of like it though.
We ended up packing up and coming home that night though, the boy just couldn't sleep at all. He spent his time kicking and rolling while talking and singing the whole time. Have you ever had to pack up camp with a toddler late at night? not fun....

Aww.kids get over excited when they are out in the "wilds", and for the first timers, its scary and exhilarating all at once. You have to totally exhaust them with hiking and doing all the outdoorsy things, right up until supper time, then get the smores out.and watch their little eyes start to slowly close.

Cute photo.

I guess I didn't get him tired enough. Maybe next time we will get him to sleep. 3rd times a charm I guess

Haha, we did actually tried Benedryl as it was getting late, but he fought it and fought it. He was running on pure willpower, I think.

Flo...you really want to turn a kid that age, loose on a bike, in the wilds. Way to many bad things that could happen.

Very nice shot. His right hand being in the frame adds to it, IMO. Looks like he's about to faith heal the lamp or something.

I guess I'm in Flo's camp (bad pun intended!) on the Benedryl thing, although there were times camping with my kids when I was sorely tempted to funnel some Jameson's down their throats to get 'em to sleep! Our old black lab was always the first one to crash - she would stand by the tent door until one of us noticed and walked over to unzip it and let her in.

I like the photo - nice natural capture.

As to tiring them out - first you have to be able to do it and they do have more energy than I do.
Which is why kids are for younger folks.....
