I was wondering how many people here offer Senior discounts. The only problem I have with that is families will abuse it and get the grandmother to order for them.

There is also the military discount, and maybe discounts for firefighters, police, etc.

And since I just thought of it, would it be weird to send a package with a special created just for the fire department and their families?

I think Ill make up a special package of coupons to give to the local fire fighter departments and possibly the police departments.

I guess I should check to make sure they can accept gifts from local merchants. Im sure the FD can with out a problem, but the Police department might have to be a bit more careful about "gifts". Anyone have any insight on this? :)

I sometimes offer discounts or incentives but I haven't ever targeted a specific group.
If you target seniors, then you should expect grandma to order the family photos and get the discount....wouldn't that be the whole point of it? Just like if you gave a police discount, if there is a policeman in the family, I'm sure s/he will be the one to order the photos to get the discount. It only makes sense. :)

I shot a wedding proposal for an active duty Marine. My discount was "free". Enlisted folks in our military don't make enough as it is. Their money is better spent elsewhere, in my estimation.

I'm not suggesting that everyone do this. I'm retired military, so I may be a bit more inclined to do everything I can for them...

There is a military thing somewhere, I forget the website name, but it links up local photographers to local families with soldiers that are deployed. you do a free family portrait, print a certain package at your cost, and mail it to the soldier at your cost. :) I cant remember the name though.

Business is business... Not sure what makes the soldier any more special than the truck driver who spends weeks at a time away from his or her family or the oil rigger doing the same for months at a time or a number of other white and blue collar Americans who have to be away from the ones they love in order to provide. All of these hard working people chose their form of employment, including the soldier.

If we shoot them for free then we should probably shoot anyone who has, ever had, or knows someone who has had cancer or any other potently deadly disease.

I know... Let's just shoot everyone for free so that we aren't discriminating. Wouldn't want to hurt the feelings of that poor person who has never had anything bad happen to them.

Business is business... I'm in it for the love of Photography and to make a living doing it.

one difference with soldiers is they put their lives at risk every time they get deployed. some oil riggers and some fishermen do as well.

Its just a way for them to show appreciation for what they are doing. :)

and for others, it might just be for good public relations.

I won't turn this thread politically. I'll just say, if you don't want to do it, don't do it.

I want to, so I will contnue to do so...
