What do you all think of these? They were taken on a Sony Cyber Shot I had before my 7D. Again feel free to be brutally honest! :)

I saw these on one of your other threads, and these are the two I liked best. I did not comment because If I remember right you had too many pics for review. The first looks like some doomsday or catastrophe pic and love the PP. The second, I don't know what it is but it has me wondering and I love the colors and soft focus.

Thanks a lot! I've gotten a few different perceptions on the first, none are even close to what it actually was haha. But I'm glad it has that ability to be viewed a number of different ways. The second is one of my favorites, I feel it came out almost exactly as I intended it to.

lol, when I saw the first picture I thought it was a night shot taken on a tripod.. but the reflection off the heads of the people gave it away. not to mention the flight trails in the sky.

Since you're asking for honest critique, here's my take: to a person who has no idea about photography (thats how I think when I take pictures like this) these pictures seem like art not photography.. but then again the picture is your perception and view about what you want to convey

It seems like the picture has a Sepia filter on it? I would want to show the blue sky, white trails and bustling activity in the picture. maybe even a slow shutter where people movement was blurred to depict the bustling scene

Don't understand the pictures, no interest unless you say what's going on. Air show? looks like something is wrong in the sky weather.

They are supposed to be artistic, take it for what they are. Come up with your own explanation.

First that glare is overwhelming, the photo itself seems askew? Verticals are not so? Lens distortion?

Second, well.what I think I see is irrelevant, its a silhoutte of something with a bull, and soem other phallic thingy:o and power lines and blown out glare from the sun.

Guess thats my explanation for what I see?

But if you like them, thats great~;)

Haha ok fine. They were both taken at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. The second is the silhouette of a giant cow hot air balloon. I guess since I know what it is, I found it hard to understand why no one else did. But thats why I'm posting here, to learn what I should and should not do. :)

I like'em....very creative. If everybody stuck to the rule of thirds and kept their horizons level with distinguishible characters, it would be a pretty boring hobby.

Thank you. I feel like photography should be more free form, you know? Take picture be creative if they work, they work. If not, no harm done. I'm not saying we should forget about things like the rule of thirds all together, but they definitely shouldn't be the powerhouse behind your photos.

No, but the photos should be able to stand on their own without explanation.Creativeness is the whole idea, but getting basics down pat is crucial.
