Funny and weird question but how do you guys deal with bugs and mosquitos on the wedding day?

Do you find most brides are unwilling to apply bug spray? Or is there some natural remedy?

Thanks!

Never been an issue and I shoot outdoors in Minnesota during the summer all the time. If you're concerned about it for yourself (not wanting to smell like bug spray) try lavender (essential oil). When I worked in Wisconsin this past summer I used to mix a few drops in with my shampoo and body wash and I got 3-4 bug bites the whole summer working in the woods near a lake.

The mosquitoes are so bad here in central MN, I don't even have to worry since there's no way a bride would be outside at dusk. I did a senior portrait shoot last summer where I had to spray OFF all over me and it was still unbearable.

I shot an all-outdoor wedding (ceremony and reception) at a state park near Willmar last year and didn't have a problem. We even stayed outdoors into the evening around the camp fire without a problem. Lavender works 100 time better then OFF. Seriously, I swear by it! And I grew up in Minnesota and have tried almost everything to get those little (er... giant) buggers off of me. It wasn't until 2003 that I discovered Lavender and it's changed me outdoor living life!

Lavender sounds like a great idea!

Unfortunately where I am located the mosquitos are about the size of small helicopters and love being in pictures.

I think if you were in a place where bugs were such an issue, the bride wouldn't mind applying some. In Tasmania if you don't put on sunscreen you will fry in the sun in almost no time, so brides will always apply some as a matter of course.

I also live in Minnesota. Our state bird is the mosquitobw!

Thank you for the lavender tip. Going to try it for sure. We had a bride that wanted outdoor shots at a friends garden with ponds. Unbelievable location but before we got back to the church she had about 10 welts,, and i mean BIG welts from Mosquito bites. Thank god for photoshop:lol:

I worked at a hardware store throughout college, and we sold these and the refills like crazy. All the hunters in the area swore by them and said they worked way better than any other repellant they had ever tried. Just attach one of these to your belt (or somewhere on your person) and snap away.

+1 on the Thermacells. I use them in hunting season and I laugh at my buddies mosquito bites
