Are you sure about the software version number. When I look at what is currently available on the Canon site the number is 3.8.3. Anyone can get at that. I'm not sure what the latest and greatest version is with the last camera released but what is available online is more than capable.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

3.9 has been available on the Canon Europe site for about half a year (IIRC). And I think that woos is right that 3.10 is bundled with the latest models.

Is there some particular reason you need 3.10? I'm suspecting that the only real difference between the current 3.9.3 and 3.10.x will be the addition of support for the new cameras. If you picked up a 600D or 1100D without software then I can see the need, but if you have an older camera, I dont suspect that the upgrade will offer much.

I had a rapid look at the manual of the new version and didn't find something new.
If someone wants to have a deeper look, the manual of the 3.10 version is here : http://gdlp01.c-wss.com …004722/01/dpp310-w-en.pdf (external link)

Even if new features have not been added DPP 3.10 could still have been improved "under the hood". New cameras could require new algorithms so a new and better rendering could be possible. This can be suble and difficult to see.

A few years ago I was using RIT, or Raw Image Task, part of ZoomBrowser. It was identical with the cameras internal processing. I liked the results and was impressed with the rendering/conversion but then Canon released a new version of DPP ( don´t remember version number ) and discontinued RIT. If you use raw-files from older models and do a side by side comparison, RIT vs latest DPP, you will see how much better DPP has become in only a few years.

Canon won´t tell us if DPP 3.10 has improved or not but I am still looking forward to new releases. If only they could add a recovery slider, like the one you find in LR/ACR and a couple of brushes I would be happy.

Exactly, that too.

For example, ACR 3.4 has much less banding in 7d shadows (the 3.4 release candidate, that is)...is this stuff in the notes? Nope.

Just FYI, while Canon does give this software free with their cameras, the software in licensed from Canon. If someone posts the software they will be in violation of the Canon License Agreement. Canon Does not even let you download full copies from their websites, only versions that can upgrade already installed Canon products.

Not trying to be fussy here, but I would also hate to see someone get in trouble.

not entirely true. The version on the Canon website is the complete version. There are several ways to install it without the original disks.

Do tell how to go about this. It will save me from having to take my install disk on a trip with me. Thanks.

I will have access to a laptop running Windows 7. I am taking a portable HDD with me that will hopefully have the software on it for me to install. I am not that familiar with windows 7. Is it backwards compatible with other windows installations of DPP? If not then my install disk from Canon is useless anyways. It came out before windows 7 was released.

Woos, sorry for changing the subject, but we were kind of on it already.

PS: All I have found for download is 3.9.3 for Windows 7.

UPDATE: DPP v3.9.3 is compatible with Windows XP, VISTA, and 7. But is the version on my install disk compatible with Windows 7?

UPDATE 2: I can only read access the external HDD I bought on my iMac. So I will have to copy anything I find onto a memory card for now.

Thanks again.

There are several different methods. They are listed here:
http://www.northlight-images.co.uk …stall_canon_software.html (external link)

My method of preference is the registry modification method. There is one line you add to the registry per Canon installable. Then you launch the Canon update program as usual. As the updaters are the complete version, a complete version is installed. If you're not comfortable modifying the registry, there are other methods listed.

Thanks gjl711. Does Windows 7 still have a registry? If so, is regedit still used?

It does. It works just as the other one does but the location is different. for DPP the key is at:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Canon\DPP
