New to photography

Hi all im new the the art of photography ive just brought a canon 550D with 2 lens's 1st is a ef 50mm the other is a efs 18-135mm now down to the point i want to start taking photo's of cars from cars doing burnouts to cruising and static shots so i just want to know is the 18-135 a good lens for this or what should i look at getting ? I also want to do a few portraits. any advice would be great.

Those lenses will be fine for starting out. Finding good light is more important than exotic glass. For instance, this shot was with the kit lens: Willys
Someday you might want to think about a 70-200 or 100-400 if the 135 isn't quite long enough.

The 70-200 series are great lenses. I tend to like shooting longer angles, personally. If I have the room I'll be 100mm+. It's a good start though.
