Hey all,

I have been researching photobooks lately, because I would like to make a couple of books from my travels.

I really like the hardcover styled books with a dust jacket which gives it this proffessional look, like the photobooks i have bought before (.. photographer of the year for example).

Untill now i have found the following companies which could print these for me (I have used a couple of review sites for this: Photobookgirl.com (external link) (highly recommended) & Toptenreviews.com):

  • Apple, through aperture 3: They print nice hardcover books with matching dustjackets. The pictures on the hardcover are the same as on the dust jacket. (at this time i have no access to any mac, therefore this isn't an option).
  • Blurb: Hardcover books (linnen) with dust jacket. (Blurb doesn't print any titles on the linnen covers).
This last bullet actually sums up my search. I am trying to find a good company that is able to print a hardcover book with dust jacket, which does print titles on the hardcover also.

What can you recommend me, where do you print your photobooks?

Thanks

Thanks Danny,

I have asked blurb if they could print an imagewrap hardcover with matching dust jacket. here is their reply:

"The 'Hardcover, Dust Jacket' includes durable library binding and 8 pt. black linen hardcover cases with laminated 4-color dust jackets. the 'Hardcover, ImageWrap' has the cover image directly printed on the hardcover, creating a sophisticated effect and a durable matte finish. We do not print anything under the jacket, on the linen.

Blurb does not currently offer an option to only purchase a dust jacket. This is a popular request, and is an option we're exploring for the future. However, it is not something we expect to offer anytime soon."

So far the only company i have found which is able to print both a dustjacket and titles on the hardcover is Apple with their Aperture 3 books, maybe i should get a macbook...

Thanks Jan
