T1i to 40D is it an upgrade or a downgrade

I am using T1i in Canon mount. I used to own 40D but it was years ago and I don't honestly remember how it shoots. I think with current prices for 40D it would be an easy task for me to trade my T1i for 40D. The question is, is it upgrade or downgrade. Here is what I am after

1) Speed of autofocus acquisition in low light (I know that 40D had 9 X-sensors, and T1i only one, but I don't remember if there is any difference in autofocus acquisition)

2) low light noise at high ISO

3) ease of operation and ergonomics. I like how 40D feels in my hand, but I do not like dual function buttons of XXD series (before 60D), I like a single function buttons like T1i has for ISO.

I don't care about video.

Dont want to trade if there are no visible improvements.

Autofocus - 40D(more cross type points...otherwise should be similar)
high ISO - about the same
Resolution - T1i
Ergonomics - 40D
Video - T1i

Sounds like you have a good idea of the differences...you gotta decide if they are important to you.
