Hi allJust bought a rebel 2 months agoI started using it on auto mode as I am new to photographyAfter a month every auto shot was over exposed (can this happen)During this period when focussing in the creative zones the af points in the viewfinder are dull until I half press the shutter button three or four times then they become bright and the camera works fineThe camera will on some days work fine in auto mode I only ever use it in M mode now which has brought my photos on no end but I want to know if I should try and get a replacement camera

Try going to the menu and do a "reset" all the setting back to default. You might have messed up something.

Can you post a picture straight off the camera so we can look at the EXIF data? If your AF points are "dull" and takes you a few half-presses then you might want to call up Canon.

If you can try a different lens with it, and try your lens with a different camera, either a friend's or at a camera shop, that might help narrow things down. From what you describe, it's possible the aperture isn't working right. Another thing I would do before sending it in for repair is to take the lens off and put it back on. It could be a bad electrical connection.

Hi, Dave!

Suggest that you take it to Canon and have them "reset" everything. If you've tried other lenses with the same problem then there is indeed something wrong with the camera. This shouldn't be happening to a two month old camera... not even a 2 year-old one! Good luck!

Also try the firmware update. There's apparently an update for under exposed shots on some lenses. Could be part of the problem?
