If you find great photo sites, please post the links here, so we can learn from others.

The best I've seen so far is www.kleptography.com (external link)

The pictures are taken with G1 and G2, and have great descriptons with each.

Don Ellis' photos (kleptography) are certainly amongst the best available for browsing on the internet. If you have a G-(1/2/3) you should also check out Pekka's original G1 gallery, which inspired many of us "early-adopters."
Viewing Don's galleries, or Pekka's, (or even mine below) will provide you with a sample of how *different* gallery presentations of photos on the web can be.
I certainly can't speak for Don, or Pekka, but I reflected on their sites as I have developed my site over the last 2 years. Don's gallery is the epitome of simplicity -- and I think that is why it garners almost universal acknowledgment for presention, interest and quality of images. Pekka's gallery shows off his software engineering genius in writing the Exhibition Engine. You need some serious computing know-how to get this type of thing off the ground. My galleries fall somewhere in between. Data-base accessed and written in DHTML, I found it easier to offer more images as I made them.
Why do I mention the galleries? Because in the end it's how the images are displayed that attracts people to view them, and to come back to see more. And if Don, or Pekka, or I, didn't want people to look at our images, we wouldn't have shared them in the first place, and spent time creating web-based galleries. Art galleries employ curators to set up exhibitions specifically to combine the skill of the curator with the art images or items for the presentation of the art and the enjoyment of the visitors. The same holds true for digital images.

Here's to web galleries!

cheers,

Would you mind sharing your reasons for offering this link as a "Great photo link?"
I looked for myself, and would like to confirm my impressions with yours.

thanks,

Yes, Scott's images are wonderful! Well worth a good look.

Related: has anyone found bgaras's gallery? He posts great photos here, but I've never seen a link on his sig. to a gallery.

Related: While I think pbase offers a great way to share photos, is it possible that the format (everyone's images are presented in a standard format, each page looks exactly the same,...) detracts from the *individuality* of the photos? Of course, there may be no alternative, so I only ask this as an academic question.

cheers,
