While this wasn't taken with the T2i (taken with the XTI) I just wanted to share it as tomorrow will be our last day with Shelby. After 11 years and a month long battle she is losing the struggle.

Now that I have depressed everyone. Any C&C is as always welcome. This is one of my favorite pics.

Friends, this thread is growing seriously fast! Commenting on all (or even most) of the discussions and following all the different paths the members are following is going to become more difficult, but its great to see everyone so involved and so many new commers!

Welcome to the PONT and/or the T2i Users Unite section to Trudeger, Terse and mkb133.

Warat, some very good images you have posted recently. The flash-lit niece is very good, and, while a bit flat (as all the on-camera flash pictures) it is pleasant and non-harsh. Nicely done! The restaurant / bar shots are very nice, and the colored lighting makes them much pop out of the page.

Al, great to see you posting pictures again. Well, it appears we have those from Taiwan to Hawaii to Ecuador. Beautiful capture.

Trudeger, feel free to ask, comment, and share all your aspects of shooting, you'll find a great bunch of constructive fellows around here. As Annie points out, terminology is important as it allows us to talk easier amongst each others, but the pictures can be fantastic even if you haven't yet mastered all the little aspects of the camera. Welcome aboard!

Ofwiah, there is no harm in unplugging you camera. As Lost points out, the more you can do is damage the current data on the memory card, which will be erased if you format the camera anyways. What actually does hurt the camera (physically) is plugging and un-plugging it time and again to the computer to download images. The connector can get damaged. I agree with Annie you should look into card readers, they are really inexpensive ($12 or so) and will prevent the plug from getting worn. Of course, it introduces wear on the memory slot as you pull and push the memory, but I think that one is made to last longer. I absolutely love this last picture of the black and blue birds on the ground. Taking birds on the ground is difficult, but you managed two interesting expressions/poses.

gepixelt, I look forward to hearing how that works for you on the M42 lenses. I recently found out my dad's old FD lenses are not compatible and can me made with optics that would extend their Filed of View even longer so its no use reviving them. I have some Pentax ones that could be made to work, need to look into that.

can0nn3wb4n0w, the new threads after 10.000 posts is an instruction given by Pekka, the forum owner. The thing is, the way the database works is that it travels alls the posts, from the beginning, even if you access page 500. That is specially true for those using threaded view instead of the flat view. Since recursion over 10.000 posts puts a toll on the server, its his instruction that no thread can be biger than 10.000 posts. So, we had to get a new thread as per his instructions. You can look around and all such threads have numbers appended to them, its not just this one time, it happens all over. Also, as others have posted, there is NO harm to zoom with the lens off, the camera off, or any other time, save on those lenses that have a zoom lock mechanism. Zooming is a mechanical procedure, not a motorized one, and it doesn't affect the AF either, so no problem with zooming. Moving the AF wring if the AF switch is on WOULD harm the lens if it doesn't have FTM.

Terse
, you are in for a debate about walk around lenses. The kit lens is fairly good. What is your budget and what do you plan on shooting? You will hear many options and recommendations, the 17-50 f2.8 from Tamron (both versions) and from Sigma are very well regarded. Also the Canon 17-55 (I have recently bought this one). You have the Canon 15-85 which is a bit more versatile, and you have the L lenses which are also interesting: the Canon 17-40 or the 24-105. Each have their own advantages and disadvantages, they all range in prices from $400 to around $1200, so the variation is quite important. Any more input into what are you looking for?

Redfire, my hearty apologies! Carmen in Spanish is exclusively female, and I just did not consider the option that in other places it would be different. I'm really sorry, I meant no disrespect.

Annie, great to know you have the new strap and that it wasn't hard to loop through the eyepiece. We expect a full review and pictures of it!!! ;)

MuddyFox, I like your approach to the HDRs, but I agree they look a bit blue... perhaps taking some saturation away could bring back a bit of the natural look to it? The ship itself is beautiful as is the setting and your capture.

mkb133, interesting bird you posted there. It looks like a turkey but has different feathering. What is it? You have some strange birds there, I can see a royal vulture (or whatever its called!), Kiwis, Flamingos, and Elephants! and Pandas! I really hope this is a zoo, or you are living on middle earth! :) Your family shots are lovely.

dshort4597, really sorry to hear about Shelby. I believe we can all relate to loss, be it of a family pet or family members and they are, at least to me, equally painful. I had an 18 year old cat which I knew longer than most of my grandparents. Hope you spent lovely times together. Best regards!

Rafa.

I am so sorry about your gorgeous Shelby. I know all too well how the loss of a pet, I mean family member feels. No matter what, it is difficult. Just know that Shelby will be pain free once again, frolicking and having fun; while waiting patiently for you at the Rainbow Bridge.

Trudeger, you beat me to it.

Dan, my heart goes out to you and your family, and to Shelby. I hope this may bring you some modicom of comfort:

[SIZE="1"]Here is my first picture submission. While I know it's not technically a great picture by any means, the content (to me) is priceless. This is my great-niece who will be 1 year old at the end of this month. I just adore her.

Of course you do. She's as precious and precious can be, and sometimes we just don't care about the technicalities.

Great kid pictures!

dshort4597, I myself usually add some glow to my images. The idea of having the blur appear only on the periphery is interesting and suits the theme and subject perfectly!

Trudeger
, that's whats great about pictures! While some technically perfect pictures can be terribly boring, others not so perfect can be lovely and filled with emotion! Yours certainly captures a fantastic expression, that mix of joy and mischievous look is just adorable! The funnel adds to the interest, its a lovely image.

Rafa.

Rafa, Thanks. The birds were a little more difficult to shoot. I was standing in my living room shooting through my sunroom. Shooting through two walls of glass that are 9 feet apart. I had to use a higher ISO than I wanted to but it seemed to have worked alright.

Quick question: What is the best source for learning the basics in Lightroom? Book, website, video, etc...?

I should add, it should be in easy to understand terms ... a "dummy" like book, hah!

If you can get through the commercial at the beginning, this might help:

http://www.youtube.com …Rb_ZbxzRY&feature=related (external link)

I also have Scott Kelby's Lightroom 3 for digital photographers. It was a little confusing at first, but once I went back and looked at his workflow again, I got it.

Basically, there are a lot of sources of help out there, so google away til you find what looks right for you.

Ofwiah,

This is the memory card reader I've been using since 2009. Can read 19 different formats of card and is only $13.74.

My computer has card readers, but that stopped working almost immediately. This little gizmo has served me in good stead so far. I bought one for my grandson too.

I'll have to check that out as well, I picked up Lightroom couple weeks or so ago (maybe a month? ) and it's definitely daunting! I'm dabbling in it some, but there's so much more to it that I can't grasp just yet! Like curves and whatnot, so maybe I'll even look into that book !

But that said, it does help me make not so interesting photos, a bit more interesting.. or so I hope lol!
