Marrian, I hope they get your internet connection straightened out and fast. Aside from the frustration you've got to be feeling, we would miss you terribly if you weren't here and posting.

Those two shots were lovely. I think the light on your daughter's face is just right.

A couple more from yesterday, but compared to what's being posted, they're boring. LOL
As you can see, he's sitting on his favorite fake Canada Goose again.

Nice Anne. Hey, do you live in a wildlife park? Your shots of our brothers and sisters with four or more legs, or wings, or exoskeletons are extraordinary.

There was some talk about metering a few pages back.

I like the way this page explaines metering because it is done with picture.

Nope.. That's just the wildlife that lives here naturally. Unfortunately, some of them, along with the plant life are not native to Florida, and are exotics that have at one time been turned loose by errant pet owners. Our climate is very good for these non natives to "go forth and multiply." A good example is the current problem with Pythons in the Everglades. Seems Alligators are not longer necessarily the top of the food chain.

I am very grateful however in knowing I can just walk out my front door, and go a few steps and have all this wonder right here. And please don't laugh, but when an animal, bird, lizard, etc., allows me to get some shots off, I always thank them. Literally!!

Awhile back, people were sharing their camera bag setups. I finally got around to working on my own "filing" system today, and here's what mine looks like:

I don't use a "camera bag" at all. I'm using a regular wheeled backpack, in which I've placed a backpack insert for cameras that I purchased on ebay. It looks like this:

CAMERA BAG 1 (external link) by Anne Rodkin (external link), on Flickr

Since I needed a camera to show it to you, you'll notice that spots #I and II are empty. #I holds my T2i body, and #II holds the 55-250 IS lens. Now, bear in mind please that these two items are rarely in the bag, because that's my walk around setup.

The rest of the items are as follows:
III Minolta 7D with Sigma Bigma (50-500mm) lens attached.
IV Minolta 35-80mm lens
V Canon 18-55mm IS Kit lens
VI Minolta 100-300mm lens
VII Minolta 50mm lens
VIII Various Filters
IX Cokin P type Filter, adapter ring, and graduated ND filter

Not visible, but in the same area as IX is my Rokunaur 1.4 Teleconverter for the Minolta.

There's still room in area IX for other items if need be.

Outside pocket of insert:

This pocket on the outside of the insert currently holds
Lenspen
Raincoat for lens (way too big for even the Bigma) needs to be cut down
Extra battery cartridge and six double A batteries for Meike grip.

Outside of backpack:

Huge pocket that currently holds only a long remote cable release for the Minolta, and a headlamp. There's still plenty of room for other items. There's also a small case for extra memory cards, but currently, I keep those (the SD cards... Minolta takes CF cards) along with my remote for the Canon in the pocket on the CS-1 strap.

So far, this setup is working very well for me. Except for the wheels being a bit noisy, I don't have to carry anything, yet have everything with me.

BTW, I don't know why the backpack looks purple in these shots (unless it's my uncalibrated monitor). It's actually navy blue.

Ouch, I'm looking for honesty, but geeez Annie  To think, I tried to shoot a dam duck during nesting and she tried to kill me.....just for you Annie!!! It was blown out from the light so I deleted it, was trying to blur out the back ground and must of had sometthing set wrong because it was blown out bad, almost white.

Rafa to be honest with you I'd have to go back, I believe I was shooting only with
adjusting the aperture setting. I really wasn't sure on what to do, I've been focusing on indoor, close up and Glamour. So with a starting point of 1/125 F8+ 100-200 ISO and playing with lighting and with changing your lighting and aperture you can do some call stuff. Me being far from the subjuct, direct sun light, High ISO, HIgh F stop and shutter speed I focused more on subject matter/background than I did with camera settings.

Tomorrow I'm shooting at a SCCA race for one of my enployee's, just for fun. I'm sure I'm going to have the same issues. Not having a clue what I'm doing. Might shoot in Auto and play with shutter speed on a mono pod

Anyone one want some Canon equipment cheap :( No not you Annie :p

You mentioned focus, most of the time I focused on the subject, however for effect on some, focused before to create a different effect or try to

Good luck at the SCCA race can't wait for pictures. What settings do you use for a race? I am going to some races later this summer for drag racing for my husband and would like some cool pictures. What Canon equipment are you selling?

Thank you Alyce. I love it too, but I really don't know what I did that caused it to be sharp where it should be, and blurred where it should be too. I really wish I knew, because it would be great to replicate it when wanted. Then again, maybe Mr. Cormorant was standing still enough so the camera only picked up the blur (which is what I suspect happened). I do shoot on burst, and there were only two shots like this one shot back to back), but this was the better of the two.

This was the other one:
