What a wonderful moment captured. And the PP gives it a nice classy look. Nicely done.

As near as I can make out from the exif info, you were on manual focus. I think for these type of shots, auto might serve you better. I think I can see what you were trying to do, but the focus appears to be elsewhere...

Thanks for the constructive critisism :) I was meaning to have like only something in focus and the background out of focus, simply because i think it looks good :D I was shooting in manual in all the photos ;)

What an eventful evening. I had to rush out of the house like a bat out of hell as soon as my wife got home from work and drive 20 miles in less than 15 minutes to get into position for this severe storm. It was worth it.

If you aren't into weather these may not be very interesting, but this was a significant storm that was dropping golf ball sized hail just a few miles away and it had a pretty nice rotating wall cloud (the funny cloud I was photographing) which is where tornadoes form. No tornado touched down while I was on it, but it did go on to trigger a tornado warning the next county over so I just missed it. :(

An excellent series Maru. My favorites. The 3rd because it's so ominous and foreboding. The last for it's color and sharpness. Great job.

Well, you certainly did that, so I take back everything I said!! :D

Maybe you can find a flower or something to focus on and blur the background. You definitely have the technique down pat.

Very nice Annie...1600 seems to work good for you!

I noticed nobody had replied to this question...

The "constant" refers to the fact that the entire zoom range can be served by a 2.8 aperture, as opposed to the (cheaper, lighter, smaller) variable zooms found on the kit lenses, where the wider end of the zoom range has a smaller aperture than the far end.

(e.g, 18-55 f/3.5-5.6, meaning at 18mm, you've got a f/3.5 aperture as your widest, at 55, it's f/5.6)

In either case, smaller apertures ("higher" f-stops) are still available, so you can stop it down to whatever the shot requires, meaning that AV is still a useful/usable mode.

Thanks Annie. After I thought about it some more I came to this same conclusion, but I had already set out to find some picture taking material....:D But thanks for taking the time to answer the question.

John

On my walk around today looking for something to shoot, I kept hearing a bird singing that I'd never heard before. So I decided to just stop, look, and listen. Well the sound kept getting closer. When I looked over my shoulder I saw this guy singing me the sweetest song I've heard in a while. I have no idea what he is, but he was pretty, and about the size of a sparrow.

John

[QUOTE=AnnieBananie;12303823]Continuing the discussion about high ISO from this morning.....

I agree about high ISOs. Everyone of my circus pictures was shot with 1600 and 3200 ISO. What noise there was did not seem to bother the pictures or the viewers.

John, it looks like some sort of Warbler, but I can't seem to narrow it down to which type.
