John, I think you hit the nail (palm) on the head with this one. I also googled, and found this information:

http://www.palmseeds.kansaspalms.com/ (external link)

If you scroll down to figure #5, mine seems to look just like the uncleaned Queen Palm Seed!!

Sorry...... no prize; unless you want me to go out and find the seed and send it to you. ;)

I think I'll pass on that prize.....I have a few around here also. I did read while looking for that, that you can eat the fruit. i think they called it the "mesocarp".Personally, I'd rather have almonds though :D

Probably because I almost never use the Minolta setup anymore, and probably wouldn't consider it even now, other than the recommendation being to bring a minimum 300mm lens, and if that, preferably with a teleconverter on it. And since we'll be shooting birds, I wanted to compare using the same type of subject.

Both of these were shot in basically the same light (with minor variations for where the shadows are falling), in the same time frame, and both at ISO 200 @f/5.6. I do think they compare fairly favorably to each other, and certainly nothing that a little PP wouldn't fix.

Of course, the major downside to the Minolta setup is I wouldn't be able to post them here, and you'd all have to traipse over to my flickr page if you wanted to see them. LOL

I do suspect I might be able to easily use my rolling backpack for this shoot, in which case, I could probably just bring it all.

BTW, I'm sure you can tell I'm a true Pisces, based on my never being able to make a decision.

As a fellow Pisces...Ahem....I suggest you use your pack and bring both...on the other hand...just kidding :D I say post em here anyway! I think we could forgive that one indiscretion.I could...

Just gotta share with you guys. I'm so happy. Here's the story:

A couple of years ago, I accidentally dropped my Sony HVL-56AM flash, and the plastic rails on the bottom broke off, rendering my $459 (or something in that vicinity) fancy flash unusable, either on or off camera. I didn't know where to turn to get it fixed (why would I ever think to call SONY...that would require brain power after all).

Long story short, after hunting high and low online, with no success, for a fix for it; a couple of weeks ago I found a message board that listed the part for the flash "foot," (who knew it was called a foot??), and I checked the Sony site and it was available. Cost me another $66, and then the wait began to see if I could actually install it myself. Looked easy enough. Just four little screws. It was the circuit board I was concerned about.

Well, the new foot arrived today. Took me all of five minutes to get it installed and working. The circuit board just plugs in, just like stuff in your computer, but a lot smaller. Would have taken me about two minutes, but my fingers are just too fat.

And just to make this post "legal," here's a photo of the broken foot, taken with the T2i, 18-55mm IS kit lens, and my YN-48 flash.

I think you can see that the rail on the right is completely broken off. The one on the left had the entire top sheared off, but was left with the bottom 1/2.

I'm pretty proud of me for managing to do this. And now I have two complete camera systems and two flash units. Oh yeah.... the Sony works wirelessly because I have a trigger for it. Too bad it's not compatible with the T2i.

Now if only I knew how to work either flash, I'd really be a happy girl.:o

Good job Annie. It always feels so good to fix it yourself. However in an earlier post I think you said there were about 10,000 screws?
Only had to remove 4 of those huh? :D WTG!! Now learn how to use the darn thing!

We'll see. Maybe I'll post one and just let you guys look at the rest on flickr. Of course, if I get some great shots with the nifty two fifty, I can post those right here

Well, I had removed 8 screws I think, and there were more holding the circuit board. Little did I know at the time that I didn't have to remove the circuit board at all. And like I've said a million times, don't exagerate.

Only took four of the screws to put it back together again though.

This is why I rarely post on the photo forums.

I don't think it's personal, but it's not constructive criticism either, and certainly isn't phrased politely.

One of the things I never liked about photo sites in general, and the reason I love this forum is we don't have elitist idiots who think they're experts and who think they have the right to be nasty (they don't).

Don't let them get you upset. You and the young lady have to like your photos....they (meaning the forum fools) don't. Besides, we like you and your photos.

Good job Annie. I read your post about this a while back and thought to myself "Ah she's just underestimating herself." I was right.

Anyhoo now while on the subject of flashes I have a chance to pick up a 430EX Speedlite for $175 bux from someone on Craigslist but I'm not sure if I need a second one or if I'm just tempted because it's being sold at a good price.

Eh, maybe I'll just let the flash go since what I really need is a good set of tripod legs. Well, that and I've been discussing an upgrade with my wife for her birthday (June 11th). She's got a Rebel XTi 400D and after shooting with the T2i she's all for it. Now the choice becomes whether to sell her kit and pickup up another T2i OR get a T3i for myself and "hand over" the T2i to Liz...decisions, decisions.

Gripped 6D and T2i, 20mm 2.8, 50mm 1.4, 100mm 1.4, 10-22 3.5-4.5, Jag35 D-Focus v3, Jag35 7" External Monitor, Halo Rig Mini, CAME Stedicam, Rode VideoMic, a nice head and Annie's old legs ;)
