I need everyones opinion please. Hubby and I are going on an Alaskan Cruise in June. I want to upgrade my lenses. I am planning on buying the 100 - 400mm because I love wildlife photography, what other lens would be good to pair with this one? I have been considering the Sigma 10 -20 or the Canon 18 - 135mm to give me more of range. Then I would sell both of my kit lenses. What lenses would you choose( doesnt have to be any of these)

If you're going to get the 100-400, I'd certainly look at the 18-135 over the 10-20. With something like a 10-20 you'd be missing a HUGE and important focal range between 20-100mm. The 10-20 would probably be sharper than the 18-135 at its widest, but I wouldn't want to be stuck with the option of super wide or telephoto and nothing in-between.

A new pedestrian bridge opened up not too far from where I live. It is one of the longest self-anchored pedestrian suspension bridges in the world! Here are just some that I took. I also finally took a portrait that I am happy with, shown below. Please let me know what you think!

Beautiful pictures;)

I don't quite know how to break it to y'all, but N4ck is not a female. What he said was he finally got a portrait he was happy with. Not that he got a self portrait. LOL

Here's his profile from his blog:

fish are soooo hard for me to get... however i had to try on this one..
our bushy nose pleco is a awesome site in person.... he is never out... however he was on the side of the glass... iso 800, no flash so not too detailed... also had to brighten it up to get even this close..

and a snail is there too if you see him...

I under stand what you mean about taking pictures of fish. I have a Queen trigger and he was hard to snap some good shots. you did a very nice job BTW;) I have to find another source instead of snails to clean my tank because my tigger ate all my snails the first day I got them, I had 20 snails too! and now I have nothing to clean the tank:o I think am going to try a star fish this time. wish me luck:rolleyes:

[QUOTE=marubozo;12080408]I ran out of ideas for pictures today so I just took a quick photo of the second love of my life.

Love this picture of how the lens reflects of the glass. I was going to get a 55-250 but my husband about has me talked into the lens you have. After all our anniversary is coming up and this would make a fantastic gift;)

Yeah our snails was only 20 cents each so am not that sad they are gone, only sad that there is nothing in there right now to clean the tank:oops: I was told if I get a crab my tigger will eat it because it likes anything that has a hard shell but when I bought my fish it was in a tank with a star fish and was not dead:confused: I do have a few tangs and tigger has not ate them yet.

Sean, I am more than willing to agree to disagree here :) . I understand where you are heading your ideas, and they are great selling strategies (this is all IMHO!), books or DVDs or courses that will try to convince you that, with enough study and dedication, you could be the next: Ansel Adams, or Mozart, or Usain Bolt, or Picasso, or Paganini, or Celine Dion, or (... insert any prodigal artist/sportsman here ...).

I have seen dedication you wouldn't believe from a lot of people... aspiring sportsmen getting even injured over years (decades!) or practice because they cannot match the 'better built' men, or artists trying to 'study' creativity (which can of course be studied, but you are not going to be Picasso or Dalí, no matter how many hours you devote to painting), or a friend who has had singing lessons from every available master, including Plácido Domingo himself, on yet is not at the level of 'better built' singers.

On most other aspects, I would agree with you, on creativity, art and sports, I don't, and I have been around all of them in many different circumstances. That said, I'm very glad you disagree... if you are right and I'm wrong, life is more fair and everyone has a chance. I, regretfully, believe that some people are just 'built better' than the most of us.

Rafa.
edit: I changed 'famous artist' for 'prodigal artist'... fame has nothing to do with anything!, sorry

Agreed with this and your previous post, I played classical guitar at a high level for many many years and i was a professional cyclist competing internationally. Now.. to get my photography skills down pat ;)

EDIT: Also great explanation of flash freezing action Rafa and Rivest!

Weather is still a bit rough here at the moment so I have been experimenting indoors, managed to take a picture of my son as he was upset about having to wait for his banana.

Here's the duck's nest I promised you yesterday.

Duck nest 1 (external link) by Anne Rodkin (external link), on Flickr

That brick structure you see on the right is the back of the barbecue grill

How many days will it take a mommy muscovy duck to hatch her eggs? It will take about 35 days for all the eggs to hatch. That is from the first day she started sitting on them, not laying the eggs. All other ducks take 28 days.

http://wiki.answers.com (external link)

I noticed that our mama duck doesn not sit on the nest during the day, but she did go back there last night, so I'm not sure where we're at. I'll keep watch though and see what happens.

:) Anne

Wooo my YN560 just arrived! Now I need those triggers to come too (should have ordered together).

Anyways I have been lazy and not contributing. Really haven't been shooting much, this winter is dragging on really long.
