I need everyones opinion please. Hubby and I are going on an Alaskan Cruise in June. I want to upgrade my lenses. I am planning on buying the 100 - 400mm because I love wildlife photography, what other lens would be good to pair with this one? I have been considering the Sigma 10 -20 or the Canon 18 - 135mm to give me more of range. Then I would sell both of my kit lenses. What lenses would you choose( doesnt have to be any of these)

Itzmered, for this particular setup, and seeing you are going to get the 100-400 no matter what, I believe the best lens for you is the 15-85. There are few more laureate lenses that can cover such a range. The 18-135 is not up to par quality-wise according to most.

Also, perhaps the 15 is enough to avoid getting the UWA as the trip will probably need you to be as light as possible (there have been photos of Alaska posted here with a P&S cause taking the DSLR was out of the question).

So, I honestly would not think twice (well, we all know this is not true, but you get my meaning :) ) about getting the 15-85. Also, quality vs. price this could very well be the best higher-end option out there.

That's just me though, hope this helps, and, of course, have a very nice trip and bring back lots of pictures with you to share here! Good luck.
Rafa.

So, is this actually a double self-portrait n4ck??? :D;)

Nice one!! If I may venture a suggestion, I have finally deciphered what I didn't like about my vertical portraits. The 3:2 format, when vertical is a bit too long, so I find is useful to frame a little less tight when doing vertical shots (completely opposite to the horizontal ones which I like as tight as possible!). That also allows for the hands (when doing this type of plane) to be included while leaving some breathing room over head, when in this crop it would have required a top to bottom picture with the girls and no environment whatsoever. But that's only my take on the subject.

By the way, your landscape pictures posted are still amongst my favorite here! You have some real talent, thanks for sharing.

Rafa.

... Nature is sometimes not always pretty, but it sure is fascinating

:( Annie, fantastic shots! Fantastic documentation! Terribly sad story! :( You should have scared him a bit to save some eggs at least, how many did he steal?

Well, the pictures are, as usual, great and the lizards are fantastic!

Rafa.

Zolth, Welcome to POTN and welcome to the T2i section!!!

Your pictures are very well done, and while HDR photography can get overdone easily, your feel very natural and they exploit places and light conditions that actually benefit from it! Which is hard to find (I know I haven't found many of those).

This one is a favorite for me! The whole color, mood, composition and, of course, location make a fascinating image!

Welcome again! You haven't broken any rule... you can post up to 8 images in a post and neither can be longer than 1024 in the longest side. While in most threads 8 would be the maximum number allowed in the entire thread, this 'sharing' threads allow for many more as long as they are within the other posting rules.

Nice to have you on board, best regards,
Rafa.

Thanks Rafa I will look into this lens. I am also going to seriously work on learning how to use DPP and start shooting RAW :)

Thank you Rafa. I have no idea how many he stole, nor do I know how many were down in that hole. And forget scaring him. He was fearless. LOL I'm sure he'll be back again if there are more in there.

I'm kind of glad to see the lizards back again. They had disappeared for awhile, which is highly unusual.

This thread moves too fast for me to keep up!!!

Some amazing work from everyone.

Here are a few from a conference we did the other day. We designed and built the stage set and put in the full production. I was set builder on setup day and then ran powerpoint and keynote for the 2 show days on this conference.

I just purchased a T2i about two weeks ago. I'm a complete photography newbie, but I'm learning. Here's some of the better shots from my first ~130 photos. There sure is a lot to learn between using the camera and post-editing! Criticism welcome and wanted - I'm here to learn.

Hi Bohh. Welcome. You need to choose the BB code version when sharing from flickr for it to work here.

Still trying to figure out DPP so all I did was sharpen them a little bit. I also realized that I like the look better in Standard than faithful. Really makes his colors pop and look more natural

Sounds just like me, I just stick to the basic settings on DPP too (for the time being Lol)
I hear people talking about Photoshop but I think I will try and get my head around DPP first
I agree with you that even with just the basics you can make a big difference to your images compared to just using jPEG:)
