Maru, from amazon, purchase this one:
Yongnuo 2.GHz Wireless Flash Trigger/Receiver and Shutter Remote for Canon Rebel Series DSLR (external link)

It is specifically tailored for the XXXD series.

Rafa.

Itzmered, sorry about the 100-400. That changes the game a bit. Well... for $1000 you can go off-brand (like the Sigmas) or make an even more difficult decision:
- Buy a L zoom like the 70-200 f4IS (used goes for about $1000+), or the 70-200 f4 (new $760) or a 70-200 f2.8 ($1000+ used) and make a compromise to achieve half the reach of the 100-400.
- Buy a non L zoom like the 70-300 which, in all honesty, is not as good as your actual 55-250, so I'd stay clear from those.
- Buy a dedicated wildlife telephoto like the EF 400mm f5.6L

Now, all this choices are not that much cheaper, and staying in the $1000 limit for a new lens is really, really tough. With that budget, the Sigma 150-500mm f5-6.3 appears to be the only option. My concern is that at 500mm f6.3 you are shooting wide open and the lens is probably not at its best, so you may need to go to even f8 to get good sharpness and then its not really that bright and the shutter speeds will not be ideal. The 120-400mm may also work, but I'm not sure about its Image Quality.

I cannot think of many other choices available to you... perhaps the 55-250 is actually the better option altogether until you can save for the $1500+ choices like the 70-300L, 100-400L or the 400f5.6L.

Rafa.

Thanks. It's a good thing I asked because I did have the other one in my cart.

The new model is out, Yongnuo rf-603. It's like the 602 except it's now a transceiver instead of having a receiver and a transmitter. They also made it so it takes AAA batteries instead of a cr2, which are more expensive and almost never rechargeable.

I've looked, but I haven't found a place that is actually selling them yet. Not even their own ebay store.

Sup guys! Very excited to be here reading and looking at all these amazing photos. Right now I'm trying to get a DSLR through the CLP, and I originally wanted the T2i. But then I found out about the 50D.

The T2i with 18-55 lens shipped is around 540. Retail about 800
The 50D with 28-135 shipped is about 711. Retail about 1500

The 50D looks like its a lot more saving, but I'm worried it a bit older.

I want something that I can use for a long time and won't need to upgrade after a few months. Oh yeah forgot to mention this will be my first DSLR.

Which one will take better pics?
Thanks guys!!! I really want to order one ASAP!

Slickooz,

The T2i has a better overall Image Quality and will respond specially better to higher ISOs! The 50D has better build, weather proof, better viewfinder and burst rate, rear wheel, etc.

So, if you weigh a lot into the 'shooting experience' process and the ergonomics, the 50D is the better pick. If you actually weigh more to the final Image Quality, the T2i is the better pick.

One significant distinction: if you EVER plan on doing video, the 50D hasn't the option! The T2i has Full HD 30fps video.

I'd say go for the T2i and build up for better glass... those almost $200 in difference can get you a 55-250. Also, the 28-135 is not that great on crops, 28mm is really a bit long. The 18-55 is a superb lens.

Those are my thoughts anyway. Good luck, let us know what you pick.

Rafa.

Thanks Rafa! Yeah the 1080p video is what I really like and will prob use a lot. I head very good thing about the 50 fixed lens. Will that be enough to start shooting? I think I'm going order the T2i tomorrow, going read up more but T2i looks like the best bang for the buck.

...I have been looking at the Sigma lenses

Ok, I cannot sit still when there is something I am not too sure of, so I did some research. There is some debate regarding the Sigmas vs. the 100-400 but this much is certain:
- the Sigma 120-400 is not up to par with the 150-500, this second one is a very good to great lens
- the Canon 100-400 is probably the best choice but the 150-500 is not trailing too far back and some folks have managed RIDICULOUSLY great shots with it. If you see these images, you would purchase the lens without a second thought (though not all have gotten such great copies): https://photography-on-the.net …p?p=12049973&postcount=12
- It costs $600 less than the Canon.

So... I'm reviewing my previous statement, perhaps the 150-500 is the way to go in your case. Be sure you can test your copy and if soft, exchange it until you get a good match between the lens and your camera.

Rafa.

the t2i is 18MP whereas the 50D is 15MP

found this in another thread.

50D:

Pros:
1. It feels sturdy.
2. I haven't tried it yet but I heard good reviews.

Cons:
1. Bulky (my hands are not that "big"). I like to travel and I take pictures only as a hobby.
2. Kind a expensive.

T2i:

Pros:
1. Weight and size (as I said, my hands are not big and I like to travel with a DSLR that is not heavy).
2. Cheaper than 50D but I read (?) that it can match picture quality with 50D.

Cons:
1. I haven't seen yet the real thing but I've tried a Rebel XT... and yes, it feels like it's not sturdy (is it the same material?)
2. I'll just include it here... video is not really a big of a deal. I might use it, I might not...

With that said, I think T2i is winning. If only T2i has a body that is not plastic, it would be an easy decision. But again, change the material, and the weight will change again...

i'm pleased with my t2i.
ultimately the lens will determine 'better' images; and if you chose to invest money into your camera setup.

Absolutely, with the price difference you can buy the famous Nifty Fifty, the Canon EF 50mm f1.8II which sells for $105. That lens is great for video, and if you are going to 'use a lot' then there is no sense in buying the 50D.

Rafa.
