- She values sharp, crisp images in all lighting conditions she faces. Which is why she shoots with the 24L and shoots mostly at f2.0 and smaller. For example, she knows the iso limitations of the 7D and rarely goes over ISO 1250.
- She values a lightweight camera so it's easier for her to clear customs. She personally HATES the 24-70L because it's too heavy for her. (Side note: and just like me, she hates the f2.8 aperture of the 24-70L). She ended up picking up my 24L and now will never let it go. I miss that lens :(
- We have other wants as well so we can't afford both the 7D and the x100....

Does she tried it yet?
I'm afraid if not and you sell 7D and lenses - she might be disappointed big time about IQ from X100.

I do travel for business and document my and my family life as well. 500D (which is better compare to X100) with kit lens or small fast prime fits into very small bag and it takes not so much space in my computer bag. It is very light and compact as well. I don't need to waste my money on dslr bag. I still don't have any.

The only thing which makes X100 so desirable is design. It looks like old camera. Technically it is like not so new DSLR as well.

4 3 camera would costs less and IQ might be even better compare to X100.

Get an Ixus for travels. It won't kill you if it gets stolen.
Good pictures, easy to use, comes along in a shirt pocket.
I am very very sceptic of Fuji X100. I feel it is a retro marketing gimmick more than anything else.

If you seek convenience (slim camera that you can bring wherever you want to go, and a collectors item type of camera) then go for the X100. But don't look for the speed and the capabilities of the 7D from the X100.

Ive tried the X100 over the weekend from an IT show here in Singapore and based from my 20 min experience, i find it TOO slow to focus specially in low light though i like the bokeh it creates. It is also bigger than any digicam, around 1.5X the size of canon S96.

The feel and finish is excellent but the performance doesn't best in any way the 7D. Yes you can carry it around without having a back pain carrying a 7D all day long but you will definitely miss some moments with the X100 because of the focus speed.

If you're not into sports or fast moving subjects though, it's definitely a must buy. love the design and feel!

Just my 2 cents

To me the X100 is awesome for the purpose you describe, to me though to trade a DSLR for a 1 body 1 lens camera like that with limited functionality, it just doesn't make since to me. If you could change lens on it, i'd be all over it.

Hi, It's lighter and it's cute but it is nowhere near 7D quality or capability. It's also overpriced. BUT, it still comes down to what you want. Have fun. Mike:)

Have you looked at some of the preliminary reviews? It definately is not a gimmick and a very capable camera. Don't knock it until you give it a fair shake.

Sounds crazy to me. The X100 is too large for a PnS and lacks the versatility of a DSLR. I honestly think the price will drop a lot ( at least used) after everyone else realizes this.

The price will definitely drop for this compact camera. It's classed as a high-end compact camera just like the X1. It does have a lot of limitations like the max 1/1000 shutter speed at f2.0 only, and the flat dynamic range from ISO 100 to ISO 400. This is all based on early user reviews. Hmmm..

This camera is definitely not a gimmick. I agree with Hogloff on this one. I really like the Hybrid VF with it's 100% customizable VF. The VF is also 100%+ coverage - i believe it's 133% so you can see what is coming into your frame. That's absolutely fantastic!

The customizable VF allows for a live histogram and a full grid as well! The Live histogram is definitely a selling point for me!

Giving your "girlfriend" a say in your finances is your first mistake, don't compound that one with another.

LOL! My girlfriend and I are fair with one another. Afterall, she was the one who gave me my 5DII.

Go for it. Sell everything you have and get the X100.

LOL. Sell everything I have? If i did, I would go to a Leica M9. ;)

But seriously, no. I love my 5D and can't think of reselling this camera even if the 5DIV comes out.

Fixed lens 2/35mm.
That's all you need if that's all you got.
Been there done that 30 years ago, had no choice. Ah, the TRI-X days 50 pounds ago!
1500$...not a gimmick?
Let's wait and see reviews.

I think that Fuji have already said that they will not be able to fill all the preorders they have from their initial production so I don't think that will happen very soon.
