Eneloops, with a spare set of alkalines in the bag just in case.

Tip - the moment you detect the recyling getting a bit too long, raise the ISO and/or lower the f/number. One stop of either of those settings halves the flash output, dramatically cutting the recycle time and extending battery life.

+ 1 for Eneloops, but with a spare set of ... Eneloops in the bag (why a spare set of alkalines? To me the whole thing is not to buy expensive alkalines any more).

+1 for the Energizer NiMH rechargeable batteries. I have used them long before I got into photography in all of my remotes, flashlights, wireless keyboards/trackballs and all sorts of other things and have always been happy. I usually have a zip lock bag full of both AA and AAA rechargeable batteries ready to go in case some get low.

However looks like eneloops be getting a ton of votes so should be a good choice to go with!

Powerex batteries here...last almost forever..I can do a 5 hour wedding on one set with hardly any noticeable slowness..Of course I don't shoot 1000 images during a wedding either, I'm choosey on what I shoot, I don't shoot multiple images of one thing HOPING to get just the right image, I shoot 2 or 3 and get the right one every time.

I was told by another canon user that you must use lithium or high drain type of batteries such as 2700 mah, that is what I use all the time anyway so I dunno.
