He would laff his ass off turn over and go back to his grave in the Adams wilderness.
Along that path he would take a bottle with himself
and state whats wrong with these 21st Century photo gearheads ???
They can't buy a tripod, bag, lens, etc. with out blab or ask dum ass questions
on which why where who when.
Nor can they even wipe there a.. without consultation.
Better off dead SFP !!

I see too many conversations and not enough images! Stop drooling over the gear and get out there and shoot!

He would go out in the wilderness, hiking in for miles, searching for the perfect moment, eating only ants and grass, sleeping on the ground for five cold rainy nights until finally, the light is juuust right and his subject behaves in just the right way, that light exciting the features of the bird, instilling drama and wonder into the feat of flight.

He would then return to POTN, tell his story, and post up the picture.

And we would all laugh at him for posting pictures of a duck.

Why would he go to this forum? Everyone knows The Luminous Landscape community is where it's at for pixel-peepers who own five-figure cameras that can shoot up to 80mp, because damn if he wouldn't be shooting with a modern view camera equipped with a scanning or digital back right about now.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

He'd have the very best that money could buy in equipment so likely wouldn't be hanging out here. Sorry Canon, you're very good but not the best. Best I can afford though. Can't imagine Ansel using a measly 1D for his landscapes.

He probably wouldn't be reading this forum. He's be reading a forum or maybe creating a forum dedicate to the digital large format zone system photographer. ;):D

Adams wasn't then and wouldn't be now a pixel peeper. He was a photographer. A zone system photographer that was more interested in the final image than anything else. He was a master craftsman and an amazing artist and he wasn't a gear head. He owned gear that matched his style of shooting and kept that to a minimum. Heres a quote by him if you don't believe me.

"Photographers have been led to make a fetish of equipment, and are falsely encouraged in superficial concepts and methods, resulting in unfortunate misconceptions of the basic potentialities of photography." Ansel Adams

"Simplicity is a prime requisite. The equipment of Alfred Stieglitz or Edward Weston represents less in cost and variety than many an amateur "can barely get along with." Their magnificent photographs were made with intelligence and sympathy-not merely the machines. Many fields of photography demand specific equipment of a higher order or complexity and precision; yet economy and simplicity are relative, and the more complex a mans work becomes, the more efficient his equipment and methods must be."
Ansel Adams
