Say I have 200 images at around 10mp per image and I need to resize all of them for Web use with each image no bigger than 1mp. Is there a way to batch resize them all at once using CS4?

Nah, just use File > Scripts > Image Processor.

Nah, just use File > Scripts > Image Processor.

Under Image Processor, I check "Save as JPEG" and "Resize to Fit" (I assume) boxes. But what about the "Quality" box? It has at "5" as default. Also, do I click on the box, "Convert profile to sRGB"?

Resize to fit the suitable pixel dimensions for your web images. Exactly what size that is you'll have to discern for yourself.

The "Quality" box refers to the Jpeg quality, which, as you probably know, goes from 0-12. I think 8 or 9 is good for web, but test for yourself and see.

Yes, definitely convert to sRGB for web.

I use a couple different dimensions, depending on how I'll be using the pics. For "serious" stuff I save to the POTN image max guidelines -- a max of 1024 pixels at the widest dimension. I use a Quality a bit above "half" (depending on your software).

For more casual stuff, I typically save with an 800 pixel max at the widest. I may (or may not) lower the Quality a notch.

Using Image Processor does not save the files as Save For Web. In other words the output file will still be fairly large due to still having all the metadata and embeded thumbnail.
Dr. Brown's 1-2-3 Process does a partial support of Save For Web

Or
Picture Processor and Bridge Processor fully support Save For Web.

An other way would be to create your own action then batch it.

The OP specified a limit of 1MB. I figured a bit of EXIF data wasn't going to be a problem.

Looks nice, but gives "Sorry but this script needs CS3 or better" error using PSCS4…

Did you install the script in the correct folder?

Picture Processor is a Photoshop script and should be installed in:-
PC: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS#\Presets\Scripts
MAC: <hard drive>/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS#/ Presets/Scripts
# being the CS version
If Photoshop was open close and restart.
To Use: File - Scripts - Picture Processor

Bridge Processor is a Bridge script and should be installed in:-
Start Bridge
PC: Edit - Preferences - Startup Scripts
Mac: Adobe Bridge menu - Preferences - Startup Scripts
At the bottom click the "Reveal Button" this will open the folder where the script should be saved.
Close and restart Bridge.
Accept the new script.
To Use: Tools - Bridge - Bridge Processor

I must be going daft.
Finicky script. I had it installed in Library/Application Support/Adobe/Startup Scripts CS4/Adobe Photoshop

Thanks. Works now. Nice to have the option to remove paths
