They look good. The 50mm 1.8 is one heck of a lens for the money it costs.

#2 is soft, looks like you missed the focus.

#1 and #4, did you use the on board flash? The lighting looks flat especially on number 4. Try and get it difffused somehow or get an external and bounce the flash.

I noticed that you have a 24-70 kevin.. do you find it is able to be used for landscapes at all or just portraits?

I have a sigma 10-20 for landscapes as I enjoy landscapes as well and only just getting into portraits.. ideally, I would like to sell me sigma, nifty fifty and 2 kit lenses and get a L lens for both landscapes and portraits..

The 17-40 also stuck out due to its lower price, but am assuming it wouldnt be too good at portraits.. I have a 550d and has a crop factor as I understand, so the 24mm might be too long for landscapes?

I LOVE my 10-20 Sigma and wouldn't get rid if it to save the world. It'a an awesome lens. Even though I can only use it on a Crop Sensor body, it's still a great lens. Keep it because you may be sorry after you realize it's gone.

My nifty fifty is on the way, can't wait. Do you mind posting your settings for the pictures?

you can check the EXIF data.

the second shot was at 1/40 which may be to blame for the blur.
