Trust me... Nobody wants to see my full body :D

Here is a band shot I did a while back though. 580 to the right with a 60" umbrella. 480 lighting up the back wall.

Here's (external link) a completely different idea. Harsh lighting to accentuate the situation.

I think Bobby is specifically looking for full length work with soft lighting.

QUOTED IMAGE

Is it soft? To me looks more like hard.

More hard light.

Please, folks, lets give Bobby examples that apply to his original post and request.

Soft light is not just a virtue of using a large umbrella or modifier. It's the placement and proximity of the light source relative to the subject that makes it apparently large, and thus, soft.

Transitions and shadow edges should be smooth and gradual.

Carry on.

I think you scared everyone away Rob.

Of course, this is all open to interpretation (as probably is my spelling of that word hahaha) There are two ends of the extreme and then the areas between them.

Well I hope I didn't scare everyone. That certainly wasn't my intent.

I'm with you on interpretation when it comes to relative softness but I think that when there are hard, defined edges with very fast transitions, it's hard to see that as anything other than hard (or harder) light.

Sure, but then that same light is softer than the next "harder" light. This is a topic for a whole new thread. Dont want to overrun Bobbyz request.

Does it count if the subject is sitting? Used a single 39" DO with both diffusers on camera left.
