Hey all,

I need to be down to one body, just too much money in the hobby so I'm asking your advice!

My photography is currently:
40% Wildlife
40% Landscapes and wide vacation shots
20% Portarits, people
0% Sports

I do a bit of video as well. I'm at a loss on what body to keep as my camera.

As for wildlife I like to go in summer to Yellowstone and shoot the bears and large animals. I also ocassionally like to take pictures of the bald eagles that winter here. They are usually perched and not BIF shots. I'm mostly concerned with the AF of the 5D2 vs the 7D. As long as using the center point would work for me I think I'd be ok.

Landscapes, I typically like the wide end. I like very sharp images with low noise. (Who doesn't?)

Portraits I don't do often but ver much want to venture into much more.

So am I right to assume the FF potential of the 5D2 outweighs the AF and FPS in this kind of all around shooting? As far as lenses, I can switch those out no problem.

Let me know!
Thanks so much!

Sounds like you are pretty much decided and are just looking for confirmation. All I will say is that I have a 5DII and not once have I ever thought to myself I should have gotten the 7D, even when doing sports photography.

7D would be nice for the extra 1.6x reach (with respect to wildlife). Seems like a 7D can do everything you want based on that list. Are you using this camera to making a living? If not save some coin, buy the 7D, and invest in the best glass you can get

He's already got the 7D, I think he's trying to decide between selling the 7D and buying a 5D Mark II instead.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

i owned both, from ur type of photography i see:
the wild life shooting neutralize the landscape, remains 20% portrait & 0% sport so we all know that 5DMKII overcome the 7D in details, i guess then ur best choice will be the 5DMKII which i own now and im very pleased with it. good luck

How long of a lens you generall use for wildlife? And how wide angle do you want to go?

If you use 300mm on 7D often, you will need something like 500mm on 5D. Are you reading for this change? As for the wide side, you current have 17mm as your widest lens. Do you wish to go much wider?

I suggest you first consider your FL usage, then IQ between the two because IQ differences although exist but it is small.

Keep the 7D......the quality of shots between it and the 5D are miniscule.

I have both the 5D2 and 7D. Unless you need the full frame for the wider shots, the 7D works just as nicely as the 5D2.

Enjoyed my 7D for last 15 months and moved to 5D II last month (and you bet I am loving it). Stick with 5D. The low light, high ISO IQ alone outweighs everything. I miss 7D's advanced AF and higher frame rate but who cares?
