First real post here and hoping the experts can lend a rank amatuer a had. :)

I'm seriously considering upgrading my T2i to a T3i simply becuase I like the articulating screen.

While doing my due diligence, I found the 60D on sale at BB for basically the same price as the T3i. WHAT?!?!? You gotta be kidding me! (Granted, body only but I have the lenses I need right now already.)

That got me thinking, "Why wouldn't I buy the 60D instead of the T3i if I'm going to buy the T3i anyway?"

That begs the question. I've looked at the specs and in most categories, the 60D beats the T3i or at worst ties it. I can't see anything I'd be giving up by buying the 60D instead of the T3i.

Can somebody come up with a downside because this is looking like a no-brain decision to me. Surely I'm missing something. I'd love to have a 7D but it has compact flash cards (which I just don't care for because they are expensive, harder to find, and I generally like my EyeFi cards) and it's much more spendy.

I've gotta be missing something here. What would I be giving up with the 60D?

Thanks!

Go to the staore and handle each camera, and see which you like better. The 60D is a no brainer imho.:D

It's better to have it and not need it, Than to need it, and not have it.;)

yeah, what ranger said. i had the T1i and loved it until i had the opportunity to handle a 60D and my mind was made up there and then. the 60D is an excellent choice.

Hmm...

Sounds like there's no down side to the 60D. Luckily, my local BB supposedly has one in stock. I guess tomorrow will tell the tale. :)

Is the 60D even partially weatherproof? I know my current T2i is not nor will the T3i be.

Sure there's no down side?

The 60D likely weighs a little more than the T3i, that's the only possible downside. On the upside you get better autofocus, better controls, etc...

A little water is not going to hurt it. Weather Proof? That's probably going a little far. Get it out of the rain but don't stress about some water on it. Of course this says nothing about whatever lens you have on it which may not be water resistant at all.

There's always a down side, you're coming from a T2i, you're not going to see much difference in picture quality or ISO performance. However it will have much better battery life, it will be significantly faster and ergonomically much nicer to use. Plus better viewfinder and some other nice bells and whistles such as an electronic level which you will find yourself using more than you'd think, just to name a few.

The 60D coming from a T1i or earlier is probably pretty easy to recommend, from a T2i it's a judgment call. There should be something on the 60D you want and don't have on the T2i.

Every EOS camera is different than the other in features, if you like the articulating screen then get the 60D is a excellent choice you not regret it over the T3i, the T3i/600d was design for the beginner of dslr.

The best way over a 7D is to buy the 60D and put the extra money on an L lens done.:D

The 60D has moisture/weather 'sealing' that is as extensive as the 50D, if not more. (In fact arguably as much as the 7D, although 7D owners would have you think otherwise). Most of the 'complaints' (or whining) in regards to the 60D construction is due to the exterior material being poly based as opposed to metal, as on the previous generations.

The 60D is bigger and heavier than a T3i, and apart from the small $100 price difference, it is as of yet that the only downsides I can find...

the 60D is roughly $100 more than the T3i in terms of just the body (at least from where I live).
For people who do not own a lens, the T3i can appeal to them for more bang for your buck. Of course, the 60D wins overall in terms of photograpy, but the T3i wins in videography, which is why I chose the T3i. The T3i has a 10X digital zoom with no loss of video quality which was the deciding factor since I am more focused on videography. Without the digital zoom, I would of have to spend over $1000 on a lens that can do the same.

So in conclusion, photography = 60d, videography = 600d

there is none on the 60D it was made lighter for a reason not to have a brick around you neck, I personally go for a weather sealing EOS camera than a metal one. wouldn't you?

Well guys, thanks for all of your help. I pulled the trigger today.

Ended up buying the 60D. I really like that it's more substantial than my T2i or any of my prior Rebels. We'll see if I really like it (Haven't sold my T2i yet and may keep it as a backup anyway.). For Silver Rewards members, at least BB has a liberal return policy (no restocking and 45 days to return).

Thanks for all the advice guys!

I love how the 60D has an aperture wheel.

If your priority is videography, forget both and buy the GH2.
