The last time I shot this Redhead the sky was overcast and the water was gray. Today the sun was shining so I decided to see if I could find him again and get some shots in better light. Luck was with me and I eventually found him not too far offshore among some Mallards.

Eventually he separated from the Mallards and I was able to start shooting. He began to swim slowly in my direction and I had to start walking backwards along the shoreline while shooting him hand held with the 500 so that I would have adequate space in the frame for a decent composition. I still find that a heavy lens and difficult to keep the focus point on target. I would have probably been better off with the 400 DO in this instance.

The lens may be heavy and difficult to focus handheld, but these sure don't show it! An excellent series, Harvey, with beautiful colours and great clarity. Outstanding.

Beautiful shots, nicely done Harvey. My arms ache at the thought of holding that lens steady :)
